Staff Review
Thanks to Rich and Chuck at Lane #1 for sending out the test ball.
The layout I used was the same I had in my SuperNova...pin 4 1/2" from my PAP and MB 4 3/4" from my PAP. With the "Dual Angle" layout method, this equates to 60 degrees by 40 degrees, with the pin 4 1/2" from my axis.
I tried this one out heavy volume house shot and the PBA's Cheetah pattern, and compared it side-by-side to the SuperNova.
On the house shot I was able utilize the margin for error that the lane gave me. Shots missed to the inside did not dive through the face and shots that were wide made a smooth move off the burn. The XP was extremely clean through the heads and made a smooth arc to the pocket. I had to play a little further right than I was expecting, but that is not a bad thing. It played about 10 boards right with my feet when compared to my SuperNova, with a very similar ball move.
The Cheetah pattern showed more of a difference. I was 13 boards right with my feet and utilizing a breakpoint 3 boards further right compared to the SuperNova. On the Cheetah the XP had a cleaner move through the midlane and allowed me to utilize the area of the lane which yields the highest scores, without suffering from over/under. I was very pleased with my ball reaction on this pattern.
The SuperNova XP offers Sawheads something that the Lane #1 lineup is missing...a reliable ball for lighter oil conditions. Lane #1 now has a great 4 ball arsenal with the G-Force for heavier volumes, SuperNova for slightly lesser volumes, the G-Force Evolution for medium to lighter oil, and the SuperNova XP for light oil conditions.
