One of EJ Tackett’s favorite MOTIV cores for creating angle is the symmetric Quadfire, which was featured in the original Octane ball. A MOTIV fan favorite. The ExJ (EJ Tackett edition) VIP utilizes this proven core technology and has been given a huge upgrade with Infusion Pearl Reactive cover stock to handle the modern bowling environment.
Designed for medium conditions, the limited-edition VIP will dig harder in the oil than the Supra and provide more pop off the backend than the asymmetric Trident Nemesis. This motion is made possible by combining the higher RG Quadfire core with the clean and angular Infusion Pearl Reactive shell. Tuned to a 5000 Grit LSP finish, the VIP has the proper traction needed for a fast and consistent backend response.

The VIP is pretty neat.
I've always been a pretty big fan of the Octane and every quadfire core I've ever thrown, so I don't think it's overly surprising that I found a place for this ball in my bag.
Overall, it's smoother than I expected, but that also could be the layout (4.5x35). Don't let that confuse you though, because it's still really really clean.
I think balls like this are easy to overlook because they aren't ALWAYS in play, and this ball has a tendency to really shine late in a block when you need to meet the following conditions:
Clean
Not super fast response
Gear core too small to go through the pins properly
I find these conditions often when I'm forced left on both house, and sport shots, and I've also found that when I'm forced into gutter lofting territory with the Jackal Flash, I can ball down, move about 7 right, and throw this one instead. As someone that sucks at lofting as a whole, this is a great thing to have in the bag for later in long blocks.
On the right side, I don't see this being overly useful on the fresh without a good bit of surface, but my advice is to keep it shiny and use it when it's at its best: the burn!

Great ball, perfect for that third game when the oil has been pushed down a little. Also, amazingly fast shipping, these guys are awesome. I will be ordering from them again!

Review:
The Limited Edition ExJ VIP brings me back to the first couple of MOTIV bowling balls I ever owned, the Thrash and QZ1 Purple, which both contained the Quadfire Core. While expecting a benchmark type reaction with the VIP, I compared it with the Ripcord Flight which has been one of the first pieces out of my bag at a lot of tournaments recently. Generally using the Ripcord Flight on the fresher patterns, I was sure that the VIP would be a bit faster responsive downlane than the Ripcord Flight. It didn’t take me long to realize how well these two pair together. The VIP also has the amount of control that it can be used on fresh patterns and throughout the night or block of games.

Summary:
The ExJ VIP brings me back to the first MOTIV pieces that I ever had, but with a huge upgrade with the Infusion Cover. Although a Limited Edition, this is going to be huge for anyone that gets there hands on one (or two+). I can’t express in words how well the ExJ VIP performs and matches well especially with my game.

VIP=Gem
I can not emphasize enough how much everyone should pre order this ball ASAP. I was reluctant about a drilling a medium oil symmetric pearl. I am so glad I did. My only regret is not getting a case of these. I know every one uses terms like house shot killer too loosely, but this is that ball! I have averaged 243 in 5 games with this ball at 2 centers with different shots and surfaces. I usually need to knock some shine off of this type of ball but not this Gem. The VIP gives me length and midlane control with a forward rolling entry into the deck. Usually I loose reaction moving left as I am rev challenged however with this ball i can stay in my comfort zone longer. My moves are less and reaction never gets away from me.
Do yourself a favor and find this gem and order it while you can!
