BEHIND THE DESIGN:

Given the overwhelming success of the GEM and Exotic GEM around the globe, we felt it was important to add another viable reaction to this series of balls. So with that direction in mind, we went to work testing various coverstock materials and ultimately circled back to the often imitated, never duplicated MicroTrax material which features nanoparticles mixed evenly throughout the entire ball just like the solid and the pearl before it.

However, this go round we opted to go down the avenue of hybrid in order to compliment both the solid and the pearl. So with that, we tested all the various combinations of hybrid, and in the end, the 2pt pearl / 1pt solid presented the most performance while complimenting both the GEM and Exotic GEM without overlapping either of them.

    Roto Grip - Magic Gem

About Me 900 Global Staff Left Handed: High Rev High Speed Player Pap: - 47/8 +1 Rev Rate: +-500 Speed 17-18mph Layout: 5 X 4 ½ X 2 Ball Video: https://youtu.be/t4ulgOF6n-U BIIIIIIIGGGGGGG Hybrid. The Magic Gem is the biggest hybrid that I have thrown but don't mistake that this is going to be too much because it isn't. The Magic Gem is a ball you are going to bring out when you are starting the transition from your stronger equipment. I think this will be a great transition killer ball. What I love about this ball is that you are going to be able to get a true read when the lanes become too dry for this ball. Unlike most bigger balls they like to quit on dry or puke out, but this does not. If you get it out to dry it still likes to come back. I think that if you have all three Gems you are going to have a pretty good 1-2-3 line up. Go out and talk to your pro shop person and see how this will fit into your line up. Magic Gem

Magic Gem - Ball Specs Cover Stock: Micro Trax Hybrid Coverstock Finish: 2000 Grit Abralon Core: Defiant LRG Core RG: 2.47 Differential: 0.053 Intermediate Diff: .016 Review The Magic Gem features the Defiant LRG Core wrapped with the Micro Trax Hybrid Coverstock at 2000 grit with an RG of 2.47 and differential of 0.053 produces a strong midlane read with a very aggressive reaction on the backend. The Magic Gem fits in between the original gem (solid) and exotic gem (pearl). Through the front part of the lane, it is a little cleaner than the original gem and earlier than the exotic gem. Mid to low rev players will not have any issues moving deep inside. The Magic Gem continues to come back without any loss of ball reaction or pin carry. This ball will be great on medium to heavy oil patterns. This is a great ball for all levels of bowlers. Order one from your local pro shop today! If you search a oil monster, the Roto Grip Magic Gem is for you !! Also for people that have less rotation it can help you to make a good reaction. For me, the Magic Gem have a really nice round react. It's perfect for the sport patern who have a lot oil on it or at a begining of a league night for game 1 and sometimes 2. It's no doubt, the most agressive ball on m bag. It's correctly replace the 900Global reality. I really love to play with !! #ownit !!!

    RG MAGIC GEM

The Roto Grip Magic Gem is a powerhouse on the lanes, boasting a perfect blend of power, continuity, and aggression. Whether you're a seasoned competitor or a casual bowler looking to up your game, the Magic Gem is a worthy investment. Its ability to deliver a powerful punch with a continuous roll and an aggressive hook makes it a standout choice for bowlers who demand nothing but the best from their equipment. Unleash the magic, and watch your scores soar. #SquadRG MY SPECS: PAP: 4 7/8 R 7/8 UP REV: 350 MPH: 15 @PINS LAYOUT: 4 5/8 X 3 5/8 X 1 1/2 VLS Test Pattern: 42' THS This a great ball for the speed dominant bowler who love to play the track and need a ball to slow down at the breakpoint. Tweeners will need cover adjustments and hand position changes to maximize play. The OOB 2000 Abralon was to early for me for my THS. Changed surface to 5000 CTD pad polished resulting in cleaner through the fronts to retain energy at the pins. Same familiar shapes as my OG Gem and Exotic with the same big backend flip but controllable . Need that big asymmetrical hybrid, pick up a Magic Gem at your local SPI VIP Proshop today. #Stormnation #SquadRG #GoGlobal

    It's Magic!

Posted by Oliver Lawson on Nov 30th 2023

The Magic Gem is the newest addition to Roto Grip’s HP4 lineup following the Gem and Exotic Gem. I drilled my Magic Gem 4.75x4x4.25 2LS as that has been my benchmark layout for asymmetric balls. To cut to the chase, I found the Magic Gem to be extremely close to my original Gem, and slightly stronger on the backend than my Eternity PI. The Magic Gem is slightly cleaner and more responsive than the PI; however, both of these pieces give me more motion downline than I initially expected. It is going to be tough for me to put my Magic Gem in my sport bag over my Reality; however, it does give me a much different shape. I see the Magic Gem, just like PI, for lower-rev players looking to get a little more early motion on the lane with a decent amount of backend reaction.

Roto Grip Magic Gem Coverstock: 2000 Grit MicroTrax™ Hybrid Reactive Weight Block: Defiant™ LRG Core (Asymmetrical) Color: Citrine/Rhodonite/Jet Review: The GEM line has continued the success of one of Roto Grips greatest lines of all time in the Defiant series. The original Gem and the Exotic Gem have been great additions to the line and have continued the tradition of a strong asymmetric ball that will not be uncontrollable. The Magic Gem is another addition to that tradition. Out of box I felt this ball was just as strong as the original Gem, but the hybrid cover stock gave the ball more shape at the mid-lane rather than earlier or later on the lanes like the other iterations of the Gem did. Besides being a great overall ball, the shelf appeal has been able to makes sales on its own. This ball really pops when going down the lane and really is a unique ball when going down the lane. Roto Grip Magic Gem Ball Review by PJ Haggerty

Posted by PJ Haggerty on Nov 29th 2023

The Magic Gem is the latest addition to the HP4 line at Roto Grip. After the previous, extremely successful releases like the original and Exotic Gem, the Magic had big shoes to fill. The Magic Gem is different than the previous releases because of its coverstock. The original Gem provided a solid coverstock while the Exotic Gem provided a pearl coverstock. Naturally, the Magic fits right in the middle providing a hybrid coverstock while using the same Defiant LRG core. With an RG of 2.47, differential of .053, and PSA of .016, those numbers indicate a ball that wants to read the front part of the lane, dig hard in the mid-lane, and change direction at a moderate level into the pin deck. The hybrid coverstock will create more length than the original Gem, but after throwing the Magic on several surfaces and conditions, I see the Magic wanting to dig similarly to the original Gem. I’ve drilled one so far and think it rolls great. It’s mapped out as 5.5 x 4 x 3. This puts the pin in-between my bridge and middle finger and the CG is just to the right of my thumb. I’ve had the most success with the Magic Gem when I’ve had to keep my angles tighter and when I need something to pick up, but not change direction super hard down lane. I’ve found a ton of consistency with how it rolls and goes through the pins. The Magic Gem can be extremely useful because I think it’s different enough compared to the other balls in the line that it makes complete sense to drill.

    Roto Grip Magic Gem

Roto Grip Magic Gem Layout: 4.5 x 5 x 2 Storm Pin Buffer Layout Rev Rate: 325 rpm, 7 degree of axis tilt, 40 degree of axis rotation Testing information: 41 foot THS (medium to light volume) Bowling Center: Fulton Bowling Center Kegel Machine – Brunswick Anvilane The Roto Grip Magic Gem utilizes the MicroTrax hybrid coverstock and the Defiant LRG weight block. The speed dominant or low rev players are going to love this one. The design of the Magic Gem was to fit between the Gem and Exotic Gem. I think this was accomplished but the Magic Gem is closer to the Gem, which isn’t a bad thing. I will use the Magic Gem on long oil patterns and heavier oil patterns. This ball will fill my No. 1 (first ball) slot in my tournament bag. I don’t have my Gem anymore so the Magic Gem came into my life at the right time. Roto Grip Magic Gem by Casey Murphy

Orientation: Right Handed Rev Rate: 400 RPM Speed: 16-17 MPH PAP: 4 ½ over and ½ up Location: Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield MO Pattern: High Volume THS VLS Layout: Layout 1: 5 x 4 x 2 ½ (pin above bridge) Layout 2: 4 ½ x 4 x 4 1/8 (pin below bridge) The Magic Gem is the strongest Gem in the back part of the lane ever! Think early jerk. The Gem is early and slow. The Exotic is cleaner and snappy. The Magic Gem hybrid version is earlier than the Exotic by a good deal and WAY more on the backend than the OG Gem. Honestly it was hard for me to keep it online unless I threw the ball pretty hard. If you want to HOOK the ball I honestly can’t think of a ball that hooks more overall for me. If you don’t have oil or ball speed, BEWARE! This is a ton of HOOOOOK.

    Magic Gem

Posted by Todd Benner on Nov 17th 2023

The third release in the Gem line combines the best of the two previous releases. The Magic Gem has the same Defiant Asymmetric cover as the others, but the Magic is wrapped in MicroTrax Hybrid Reactive coverstock finished at 2000 grit abralon. The 15-pound version has a RG of 2.47, a differential of .053, and an intermediate diff of .016. Drilled at 5x4x2 (pin above bridge for me), this ball is a monster. It has almost as much total hook as the original Gem, but the motion is very different. The Magic Gem’s reaction is more delayed than the original. It pushes a good 3-4 feet further down the lane before it starts to read the lane. The backend motion is much stronger than the original Gem. This ball is the perfect complement to the original Gem. Once the original is starting to burn up a little too soon, that is the time to go to the Magic Gem. The Magic needs a good amount of oil to be effective, but there is very little quit on the backend even when your angles are pretty open. In my opinion, the Magic is the most versatile of the three Gems.
