The Alpha Crux returns with an upgraded GI-26 solid cover at a 2000 Abralon finish and features the proven Catalyst core from the previous Crux series releases with the addition of the A.I. outer core. It has been designed to create a strong and predictable midlane motion with a powerful move at the breakpoint. The Alpha Crux gave me a good look sliding on 25, looking 17 at the arrows with my breakpoint around 8. The over/under at my home center can be unpredictable and the Alpha Crux did an excellent job blending it out to provide me with a more consistent reaction. When compared to the EquinoX Solid, the Alpha Crux is a couple boards stronger and creates more continuous motion. The EquinoX Solid has been great for me, but it can sometimes be too slow and forward so the Alpha Crux strength and ball motion has me excited. The Alpha Crux will be the first ball out of my bag on heavier tournament conditions. If you are a low-mid rev player that needs a little help with ball motion in league, it could also be a great choice. I was eager to see what the hype was all about. Mind you, I never rolled the original Alpha Crux, so I can’t compare the two. However, I can tell you that the new and improved Alpha Crux is a fantastic release designed to fit any straighter player’s game. The Alpha Crux has some wonderful features worth writing about. So, let’s take a closer look at what’s behind the new Alpha Crux. As a straighter player, I depend on consistent motion, a predictable turn off the pattern, and, most of all, enough power to deliver the hard-rolling continuation I need to compensate for my lack of rev rate. What I found with the Catalyst Weight block was exactly that! I loved how the Catalyst Core was smooth in the mid-lane while retaining a great deal of energy for the back end. Further, the Catalyst Core doesn’t hesitate when the Alpha Crux finds friction, so I loved being able to trust that it would stand up off the pattern with authority, regardless of how weak the shot was off my hand. And with the addition of the A.I. technology wrapped around the Catalyst Core, as a straighter player, I couldn’t ask for a harder-rolling continuation that actually left me with a few flying messengers! Yes, a straighter player with flying messengers! I would say that speaks volumes about how the Catalyst A.I. Core makes the Alpha Crux deliver! Let’s talk about the outstanding results of the GI-26 solid coverstock on the Alpha Crux. As a straighter player, I loved how the GI-26 solid is a well-balanced mixture that provides the traction I love to see, without the exhausting oil-absorbing bite that leaves me corner pins because it grips the lane so intensely! The GI-26 solid was designed for higher oil volumes, but it doesn’t burn up and get lazy like other strong solid mixtures tend to. On a fresh THS, the 2000-grit Abralon surface was ideal for a first game and produced a smooth, well-balanced motion I love to see. So, the GI-26 solid coverstock lives up to what Storm set out to do. However, as an experiment, I brought my Alpha Crux up to 400-grit Abralon to see how it would fare on a night of THS bowling. What I found was that the Alpha Crux was dynamite all night long. Because of the higher surface, I had to start further right, but because the GI-26 reads the lane so smoothly and evenly, I was able to move quite far in with the Alpha Crux and enjoy playing in areas late in game three that I don’t normally get to play. So, without a doubt, straighter players and those who are more speed-dominant THS bowlers will find the GI-26 to fit their game quite nicely. In closing, the new and improved Alpha Crux is an outstanding release from Storm. The combination of the Catalyst A.I. Core and the GI-26 coverstock makes the Alpha Crux a great choice for any straighter, low-rev player like me. Furthermore, I strongly suggest that advanced Junior bowlers, especially the girls, take a look at the Alpha Crux, as I can see it delivering consistent, predictable results for you on medium- to long-length patterns with higher oil volumes, especially when those huge asymmetric cores and heavy cover balls start burning out. #15 Storm Alpha Crux: SPI says: A modernized version of Storm's legendary heavy-oil asymmetric benchmark with massive midlane traction and continuous motion. After drilling the Alpha Crux with a **4¼ x 3⅜ x 4** layout, I found it to be what I hoped a modern Crux would be, a strong, predictable asymmetric that blends the lane exceptionally well without feeling overly early sandwiched between my Ion Max and Equinox Solid. The New Alpha Crux is designed for today's higher-friction environments and heavier tournament conditions. Me:Senior Right-handed bowler with approximately 300 RPM and 15–15.5 mph ball speed, this layout gave me a strong midlane read while maintaining excellent continuation through the pins. The 3⅜-inch PSA-to-PAP distance helped the ball transition strongly in the midlane, while the 4-inch VAL angle kept the response smooth and controllable rather than jerky. What stood out immediately was how confidently the Alpha Crux handled oil. On fresh sport patterns and heavier house conditions, the ball picked up noticeably sooner than my Equinox Solid, yet it never felt lazy or quit downlane. Instead, it created a heavy rolling motion that kept driving through the 8 and 9 pins. For my rev rate and speed, the Alpha Crux excels when there is enough oil to keep it from reading too early. On flatter tournament patterns, especially 42–47 foot conditions, it gives me confidence because it reads the lane before the breakpoint and doesn't rely on friction to make its move. The Storm Alpha Crux makes its return and it’s bigger and better than ever! If you were a fan-favorite of the original, you’re going to love the new version. The Alpha Crux features an updated GI-26 solid cover stock, along with the returning Catalyst Core only this time, provided with AI technology. Better enhancement, better ball motion, better results! While I didn’t get the opportunity to throw the original Alpha Crux, I was very excited Storm Products decided to do a remake and updated version of it. The colors and Apple Fritter fragrance are amazing, just like the original. I decided to go with my standard layout of 70 x 5 3/8 x 40 for most asymmetrical solids I drilled. I have tested it both on a 42ft modified league pattern and Kegel’s rt 66 45ft. I was very impressed with the versatility the Alpha Crux can create. While the ball reads a little early in the oil, it has a very strong, continuous back-end motion through the pins. The more I moved my feet to the right to swing it, the more response the ball receives as it migrates through the oil. While league patterns can be tricky depending on how much oil your center uses, the Alpha Crux would be a reliable option to start with until the friction becomes too much, and the ball becomes very over/under. This ball will work well with sport patterns contested on heavier volume with more room for error. Applying power edge polish is also ideal if you want to give it a shot for medium/low volume patterns. All in all, the Alpha Crux would be a great piece to add to your arsenal. This is the most anticipated release for me so far because out of all all the Crux series, I have yet to have thrown an Alpha Crux. And now, they have brought it back, with the upgraded GI-26 (Game Improvement 2026) coverstock, same Catalyst core, and updated A.I. (Amplifed Inertia) core technology! I decided to get two Alpha Cruxes: Pin down layout - 4 3/4 x 4 1/8 x 4 1/4 (50 x 4 3/4 x 70, using the vector layout) Pin up layout - 4 3/4 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/4 (55 x 4 3/4 x 35, using the vector layout) All I have to say is wow! Both of these balls did absolutely amazing for me, especially on higher volumes of oil. The pin up Alpha was great for me to dig through the oil and store energy for me in the backend, which provide that smooth controllable shape that I always like. The pin down Alpha worked great for me after a little transition from the pin up Alpha to pick up just a little earlier in the midlane and gave me a rounder shape and continuous motion through the pins. With the pin down Alpha, I was able to keep my angles closer to the pocket, which suits my game great! Great for heavier volumes of oil, smooth and predictable and absolutely amazing on the lanes. Here's a look at my Storm Alpha Crux. The Catalyst core found in balls in the original Crux series returns with an AI enhancement. It features a low RG (2.48), high differential (0.053), and high PSA (0.018). The coverstock, GI-26 (Game Improvement 26), is solid like the original, with enhancements to handle the higher volumes and slicker oils seen in many centers today. It comes with a 2000 Abralon factory finish. Mine was drilled 60 x 4.25 x 35 (dual angle) or 4.25 x 4.875 x 2.125 (VLS), a fairly typical layout for me.
