Storm Alpha Crux 2026 review by Lonnie Pemberton
TESTING ENVIRONMENT Length: 43 ft Volume: Med-High Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS COMMENTS: Cover: GI-26 Solid Core: Catalyst A.I. Core Finish: 2000-grit Abralon RG: 2.48 (15) Differential: 0.053 (15) MB/PSA: 0.018 (15) ME: Right-Handed Tweener Speed: 12-13 mph Rev Rate: 315 Axis Tilt: 14° Axis Rotation: 74° PAP: 5 1/8 R 7/8 Up LAYOUT: Pin Over Bridge 5 1/4 X 4 1/2 X 2 1/2 VLS Storm brought back one of the most sought-after balls in their history. The addition of AI technology and an updated cover to the original catalyst core gives you the 2026 Storm Alpha Crux. The GI-26 Solid cover will handle the advancements made to lane conditioners the way the the EGI-16 cover did. Same amazing performance on today's lanes that made the original Alpha the beast it was back in the day. I tested the Alpha Crux on a broken down lane in my home center. I'll mention I was skeptical of how much this ball would roll the the OG with the AI addition and the updated cover. That was a big factor in choosing to test this ball when I did rather than waiting for a fresh lane. I had great success throwing the 2016 Alpha when I had to get left but needed a ball strong enough to still dig out. It was one of my favorite balls for instance if I had to throw it over the left gutter. This test made a believer out of me. I immediately saw the early friction throwing a test shot around 3rd arrow. I tried a little loft but needed to really back the hand out of it to push it through the front in that zone. I transitioned left and once I got around 4th-5th arrow I found that familiar reaction and enjoyed watching the ball peel back and scatter pins. The Alpha is obviously most useful when the lanes are fresh but I've had plenty of balls that work there. The Alpha has a home in every zone at some point and it's strong versatility still shows through. This ball will be popular with many bowlers. It's a great first ball out on heavy oil or for rev-challenged bowlers and a great ball of overpowering the lanes on basically any condition. This is a ball I could easily see tournament bowlers drilling multiples of to accommodate multiple layouts and surface preparations. Alpha Crux AI Review by Kyle, Joel, & Dean Johnson
Alpha Crux AI Coverstock: GI-26™ Solid Reactive – 2,000 Grit Abralon Weight Block: Catalyst™ + AI Core (Asymmetrical) Color: Black/Turqouise Fragrance: Apple Fritter Review: This is probably the most anticipated SPI release in the last decade and it comes at a very interesting time given the enormous popularity in the Bionic and the Concept. If you remember the original Alpha Crux was very popular and once discontinued people lined to try and stash them away. The originals were going on aftermarket sites for hundreds of dollars more than the original MSRP. The reason… the ball is just THAT good. Taking the original dynamics and wrapped it around the new AI core is a home run. This ball is seriously good. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 5x4x2 (pin is above bridge). To us this ball is similar in shape to the original Alpha Crux just a touch stronger and maybe a hair earlier (probably from the AI core technology). Comparing this to recent equipment it is similar out of box to the Ion Max Solid but more continuous through the back end of the lane. Once this ball lane shines (assuming you don’t hit it with an abralon pad) it shapes similar to the original Origin… which is a good thing in our book. This ball looks great at multiple surfaces and therefore can be categorized as anything from a house shot killer to sport pattern must have. This ball does live up to the hype and we highly recommend that you try it out if possible at a marchmaker near you. Storm Alpha Crux is back and it doesn't disappoint
The Storm Alpha Crux is back and it doesn't disappoint. Featuring the legendary Catalyst A.I. Core wrapped in the proven GI-26 Solid Reactive coverstock, this ball is built to dominate heavier oil conditions. With a 2.48 RG, the Alpha Crux revs up quickly and reads the midlane with confidence. The .053 differential creates plenty of track flare and overall hook potential, while the .018 intermediate differential gives this asymmetric powerhouse a strong continuation through the pins. The 2000-grit Abralon finish allows the Alpha Crux to dig into heavy oil and provide a smooth, predictable motion without sacrificing hitting power. What impressed me most was how well the ball blended out wet/dry lane conditions while still maintaining a strong move through the pocket. The reaction is best described as strong in the midlane, continuous through the backend, and extremely reliable when the lanes have volume. Bowlers looking for a benchmark heavy-oil ball or a first-ball-out-of-the-bag option will appreciate the versatility and consistency this ball provides. Specs: • Core: Catalyst A.I. Core (Asymmetric) • Coverstock: GI-26 Solid Reactive • Finish: 2000-grit Abralon • RG: 2.48 • Differential: .053 • Intermediate Differential: .018 • Lane Condition: Heavy Oil • Color: Black / Turquoise / Violet • Fragrance: Apple Fritter

Storm Alpha Crux – WWRD 5/29/2026
Coverstock: GI-26 Solid Reactive Weight Block: Catalyst + A.I. RG: 2.48 RG. Diff.: 0.053 Finish: 2000-Grit Abralon Fragrance: Apple Fritter Storm’s new Alpha Crux is a Solid Asymmetrical piece that is good for Medium-Heavy Volume patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. I drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers, CG kicked out 1” from the palm, and 1” Left of the Mass Bias. 5 x 4 x 2 ½. I threw this piece on a Fresh Shark Pattern and on a left over house pattern. Out of Box ball motion started in the mids with a sharp backend reaction through the pins on both patterns. I compared this to the Ion Max (Lane Shine) on the let over house pattern. Ion Max went a few feet further and was smoother on the backend than the Alpha Crux. This piece will be good for all types of styles. Check Out my Ball motion Video on my Facebook/YouTube Page: https://www.facebook.com/reel/4300216263627932

The Alpha is back!
TESTING ENVIRONMENT Type: Kegel Tungsten BALL: Storm Alpha Crux AI Coverstock: GI-26 Solid Core: Catalyst A.I. Core Finish: 2000k RG: 2.52 (14 lb) Differential: 0.051 (14 lb) MB/PSA: 0.016 (14 lb) ME: Right-Handed Tweener Speed: 14–15 mph Rev Rate: 220 PAP: 6 3/16 → ¾ Up The legendary Alpha Crux is back, and Storm has modernized it with A.I. Core Technology while keeping the ball motion that made the original one of the most sought-after releases in bowling history. The Alpha Crux AI is exactly what many bowlers hoped it would be a modern version of the original Alpha Crux with more hitting power. The GI-26 coverstock digs into the lane early and provides tremendous traction in fresh oil. I normally do not test balls on anything other than our house shot as that is where most bowlers bowl anyway. So after my first few shots I was not seeing what I “thought” this ball was or should be doing. It was lazy and didn’t do anything downlane. That is where I looked up this pattern and found that I was way too far to the right and as soon as I started moving left I started to see what this ball was all about. If you know me or have read any of my previous posts I like to play right and straight, BUT this ball allowed me to get left which was a great change of pace and I even got as far left sliding at 35. This is going to be a ball that will be in the house/league bag as well as my tournament bag. Thanks for reading and watching!
