Storm Ion Max Pearl
The Storm Ion Max Pearl is the newest addition to the Ion series. Compared to the other current Pearl currently available the Equinox Pearl the ion is much earlier and overall a bigger ball. I used the layout of 50x5x30 and with my loft this layout really helps me see the mid lane at the right time. It’s a nice step down from my Ion Max Solid. Storm Ion Max Pearl review by Chris Pollentier
Storm Ion Max Pearl Coverstock: NRG Pearl Reactive Factory Finish: Power Edge Core: Element Max A.I. Core RG: 2.47, Diff: 0.055, PSA: 0.014 (15 lbs) PAP: 5 3/16 over x 5/8 up VLS Layout: 5 ¼ x 5 x 2 Dual Angle Layout: 65 x 5 ¼ x 30 Location: Prairie Lanes, Sun Prairie WI Pattern: Medium volume THS The new Storm Ion Max Pearl is the long-awaited pearlized version of the original Storm Ion Max. It features the same Element Max A.I. core as the solid Ion Max but is wrapped in the NRG Pearl reactive cover, which bucks the trend of previous pearl releases that use a weaker cover compared to their solid counterpart. But don’t be mistaken, even though the Ion Max Pearl has a pearl cover it’s an incredibly strong ball. The layout I used puts the pin about an inch above my bridge and the mass bias next to my thumb. For me, this remains a pretty strong layout that gives me a little length up front with plenty of midlane read and a strong continuous backend. I typically scuff shiny balls with a 2000/3000 Abralon pad, but given the strength of the Ion Max Pearl I decided to leave it at the Power Edge factory finish. My first chance to use it was in league on a medium volume THS. Given the strength of the Ion Max Pearl, I was required to move deeper than I typically would. Often times pearl balls become pretty over/under on league patterns given the amount of oil in the middle and dry to the outsides, but the Ion Max Pearl was plenty strong enough to dig through the soup in the middle of the lane and still make a strong move off the friction without over-reacting. In fact, the further left I moved as the night went on, the better it looked as it was able to retain that much more energy. The Ion Max Pearl is as you’d expect compared to the Solid, it’s a few feet longer and retains more energy for the back 1/3 of the lane. It’s actually a great go-to from the Solid when that ball starts getting lazy and leaving weak hits. For me, the Ion Max Pearl slots right between the Ion Max Solid and the new Storm Bionic. If you’re a high-speed low rev player, or someone that gravitates to bigger hooking bowling balls, the Ion Max Pearl should be your first consideration. This ball definitely needs oil and seemingly rolls much better the deeper on the lane you get and on longer oil patterns. Chris Pollentier Storm Products Pro Shop Staff

Ion max pearl is AMAZING!
Introducing the Storm Ion Max Pearl built to dominate medium to high oil volume. The NRG Pearl Reactive cover with Power Edge finish creates clean length and sharp backend motion. It has a Radius Weight Block — with a 2.47 RG and 0.055 differential at 15 lbs. I am speed dominant, average rev rate 250-275ish, low-medium tilt and medium rotation. I drilled mine 50x4x30. My axis point is 4 3/8 over 1 3/8 up. This ball is good for me on fresh oil conditions and games 2 and 3. I am pleasantly surprised how well this ball performs and almost never lets up. Ion Max Pearl!
About Me PAP. 4 3/4 right 1 3/8 up Ball speed 17 MPH Rev-rate 450 Layout 60 x 5 x 30 Pattern various patterns The Ion Max Pearl is a very eye grabbing bowling ball! The Ion Max Pearl allows me to start on heavier volume oil patterns using some slower speeds to store energy knowing it will recover on the backend. Once the lanes break down this ball allows me to open up the lanes send it to the right and watch the pins FLY! I can play multiple angles with ease. I recommend this ball to any bowler who needs to create a little more entry angle. The Ion Max Pearl will give you the confidence you need to make shots knowing it will recover on the backend. Very fun ball to throw great job STORM! Storm Staffer Go Get It!!!!!!!

Storm Ion Max Pearl Ball Review by PJ Haggerty
After having a bunch of success with each the previous Ion releases, I was excited to see that we had a pearl version created. The biggest difference between the Ion Max Pearl and the Ion Max is the coverstock. The engine under the hood didn’t change (Element Max AI Core), but the coverstock is now a quicker, more responsive version with using the NRG Pearl. Even though this is a pearl, it’s still an extremely strong ball. The RG is 2.47, differential is .055, and the PSA is .014. Those numbers tell us this ball wants to dig, but because it’s now wrapped with a pearl cover, it wants to get down the lane further, especially compared to the original Ion Max. I’ve drilled one so far and really like it. It’s mapped out as 5.75 x 5 x 3. This puts the pin above my middle finger and the mass bias just to the right of my thumb. It’s been a perfect ball to go to once some of the balls with more surface and more dig have done their job. It’s also been a really nice piece to go to when I need to create some angle but have the confidence to know it’s not going to blow through the spot. I believe it’s complimented my Ion Max, Equinox Solid, and Next Factor extremely well. If you need a ball fit in-between options like those listed above, go drill a Ion Max Pearl! #StormNation

Ion Max Pearl
ION Max Pearl As a fan of the Roto Grip Exotic Gem this one is what the RG EG wanted to be when it grew up! Mid lane round read and with lots of continuation. So happy to have this one in the bag. Averaged 230 off the press for 6 games at the Ohio State Tournament when the ball was in play. Instant confidence/familiarity. Not much more to say but Thank You Storm!

The powerful combination of the Element A.I. Core and the proven NRG Pearl coverstock gives the Ion Max Pearl the power, motion, and dependability for any straighter, low-rev THS bowlers looking to score! So, let’s take a closer look at what makes the Ion Max worth your purchase! The Element Max A.I. Core features a strong, well-defined motion that straight-style players appreciate. Additionally, what I enjoyed most from my first roll was the Ion Max Pearl’s vibrant flair, regardless of where I placed it on the lane. The Element Max A.I. Core recovered quite well when I missed to the right, yet still had enough energy to kick out the corner pins. When I pulled a shot inside, I noticed how the Element Max A.I. managed to stay stable in the mid-lane, yet still delivered a powerful hit that carried those high flush hits that normally would result in a four-pin or worse. Lastly, I can’t praise Storm’s A.I. technology enough. With A.I. technology wrapped around the Element Max Core, it truly delivers the striking power to keep us, straighter low-rev players competitive against those high-speed, high-rev two-handers. So, if you are a straighter player looking for that competitive edge, you will find it with the Element Max A.I. Core. The NRG Pearl Reactive coverstock pairs perfectly with the Ion Max Pearl. I noticed that on a THS from fresh to burn, the NRG Pearl provides the ideal amount of traction in the area where straight players prefer it – the midlane! I enjoyed how the NRG Pearl read the midlane with smooth, gripping traction without being overly reactive as it finds friction. Additionally, as the Ion Max Pearl moved off the pattern, I appreciated the predictable, hard-forward rolling motion of the NRG Pearl, which gave my Ion Max Pearl the strong, relentless continuation I needed for my straighter, low-rev style. So, if you’re a straighter THS bowler, you can rely on the NRG Pearl coverstock to keep you in your A-game all night. In conclusion, Storm has achieved significant success with the Ion Max Pearl. The Ion Max Pearl combines Element Max A.I. Core and NRG Pearl Coverstock effectively, making it a valuable addition to any straighter THS bowler’s arsenal, aiming to improve their game. The Ion Max Pearl serves the straighter player well as a standalone ball or as a dependable option when their strong asymmetric core and solid covers, like the original Ion Max, begin to roll out or leave corner pins. Ion Max Pearl by RGR
Storm Ion Max Pearl: Ball specs: Element Max A.I. core with NRG Pearl coverstock. Factory finish is Storm Power Edge. Design intent: Developed for mid-lane hook, medium strength arc ball motion and developed for medium to long lane patterns for lane play that starts with early transition to later transition. My updated specs: Rev rate 420’s, ball speed 15.3 to 15.8 mph off the hand, axis tilt of 16 degrees and axis rotation of 70 degrees, PAP is 3 15/16th up 3/16th. Tested on Pro-lane surface on a 44 ft house pattern with lower volume used for the junior and senior leagues, a 44 ft house pattern with larger volume, and patterns that ranged from 33 ft to 39 ft sport patterns. I changed the surface a few times to finish up with 500 grit,1500,grit, then topped off with 3000 grit. The much anticipated World Wide Release of the Storm Ion Max Pearl has finally arrived. After the still popular Ion Max Solid, the Ion Max Pearl was added to the well reviewed and received tournament collection from the brands of Storm. For me, the Ion Max Solid was a fresh pattern and house shot type of ball where the ball was stronger in the front to middle part of the pattern and blended the back part of the patterns and dry parts of the rear panels through the start of league and stayed workable throughout the night. With the Pearl version for me, with Storm Power Edge, even with mid-lane hook intent, the Pearl was just a little too long and was speed sensitive for me on the fresh house conditions and on the 2025 USBC S/D Open Championship pattern, but once the pattern was broken down a little and the surface change I mentioned above, the I.M.P., became a game changer for me, where I saw my lack of motion and carry with my Roto Grip Rockstar Amped and Storm Phaze II Pearl, the I.M.P. was able to maintain more energy and more POP going into the pocket for games 3 through 6. I have also used the I.M.P. on house condition with the surface change, and it's still not the first ball out, but through the later stages of league or tournament play on higher scoring patterns, the I.M.P. stayed in my hand longer than everything else in most recent releases, where I would go to the Amped then into a RST Hyperdrive Pearl, I can stay in the Ion Max Pearl longer and score a little better also. Ion Max Pearl Review - Mark Tarkington
The majority of my games with this one have been on house, but so far, I’m liking what I’ve seen. As long as there’s a bit of friction outside and/or down lane, the ball transitions very well. I’ve been able to play on top of the shim when there’s a pretty big puddle in the middle and if the pattern isn’t too cliffed, I’m able to loop the lane. I don’t find the Ion Max Pearl very angular; however, it does come off the spot quite well. I’ve only had some practice games on sport patterns and it seems to be good there as well. It doesn’t give the over/under that a lot of pearls do when shiny, it still tends to get into a roll and not jump at the end of the pattern. I may end up knocking the shine off with an old 1k pad and see how it looks on a fresh sport pattern. All in all, I like the Ion Max Pearl. It rolls well without jumping in the friction and it goes through the pins quite well.
