Typhoon Review by Kyle, Joel, & Dean Johnson

Posted by Kyle, Joel, & Dean Johnson on May 5th 2025

Ball Specs: Storm Typhoon Coverstock: Reactor™ Pearl Reactive Power Edge Core: Atmos™ A.I. Core (Symmetrical) Color: Royal Purple/Steel Scent: Grape Punch Review: Everyone loves a good mid level pearl bowling ball. This has been a long time coming to say the least as we have not seen a hot line bowling ball since the Electricy a few years back. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). This is a ball that is in play for a long period of time because of its versatility. Changing covers on mid level balls is also very popular for that reason. From what we have seen many people are experiencing great success with taking the power edge off if you experience more of a traditional house shot, or a house shot that puts a lot of volume down. If you loved the Electrify Pearl but need something a bit stronger this is a great compliment. It really does almost give off HyRoad Pearl vibes with similarity and smell, although we know nothing will ever replace that ball. Typhoon Review

Posted by Glenn W on May 4th 2025

Ball Specs: Storm Typhoon Reactor Pearl Reactive Symmetric Atmos Core Power Edge Polished Layout 4 x 4.5 with 1.5 Pin Buffer Bowler Specs: Right Hand. PAP 5” Over 1/2 up Rev Rate 300. Tilt 20. Rotation 50. Speed at release 17 Review: I have always been a fan of balls like the Electrify or Match Up and believe the new Typhoon fits into this category. When I tried the new Storm Typhoon, I noticed how this ball did not skid up front on the fresh but still got down the lane very well and had a strong move at the break point. It seemed the Typhoon was revving up but not reading the pattern too early. I really felt like the A.I. core addition aided in the hit of this ball. I struck on some light and high shots that I thought were likely to leave something, but it was nice when everything fell. The pearl cover works great with the Power Edge finish on this ball. The new Typhoon also has a nice grape scent. I would put this ball over my Surge pearl but under my Equinox in total hook. This ball should be a great addition in my line up for when the lanes start to burn up or when faced with a light oil situation. Summary: The Typhoon gets down the lane easy and has great back end motion. This ball hits hard and has great carry. The Typhoon will be a great ball for lighter patterns or high rev bowlers. Typhoon

Posted by Blake Albers on May 2nd 2025

I drilled the new storm Typhoon 4.5x4.5x1 to give me a pretty strong rolling layout. Out of the box this ball smells amazing and looks amazing. The resurrection of the storm hotline and reactor cover stock from the tropical heats was enough to catch my attention! My first reaction of this ball is it is incredibly clean and slow for a low-end pearl ball. It reminds me a stronger hustle in a way. This ball is prefect for clearing the fronts but still reading the middle and providing enough control to crush the pocket. If you are a fan of the hustle line or tropical surges (midnight and solid purple) then you definitely need to grab one of these to upgrade your bag. 10/10 from me!

Designed for light to medium conditions, Typhoon will be one of the weaker balls in your arsenal. I have found this to be a step down off the IQ AI and will be utilized if I am seeing tons of hook and need to tame the reaction or if I am looking to move back right as this ball will easily clear the front part of the lane without hooking early and provide a controllable shape down lane without overreacting.

    Typhoon Review

Layout: 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 2 Surface: 3000 Abralon Rev Rate: 470 Tilt: 13* The Storm Typhoon is the first ball back in the Storm Hot Line in about 2 years. A ball reaction that has been missing for those medium oil conditions. The new Typhoon brings the new Atmos AI core paired with the reactor pearl coverstock found currently on the Tropical Surge Line. The core brings a medium RG and Medium differential specs to make this ball most useful for medium to lighter oil conditions. The shape of the Typhoon is very clean with a pretty sharp backend. Ideal for most house conditions where length and angle are most useful. I got to try this on my 44ft typical house pattern. On the fresh and box Power Edge finish, I saw a lot of length for my style even with my higher rev rate. On my house pattern, the Typhoon is not ideal as it tries to create too much angle down lane which gave me that typical over/under reaction. As the lanes started to burn up more, this ball became better as expected. I brought the surface to 3000 abralon to bring the ball's breakpoint a little closer to me and to allow for a little more predictability. This change saw a better overall shape on the lane and gave me more confident in its reaction. On my house pattern, I saw the Typhoon to be most in play in game 3 and/or beyond. Compared to other angular balls in the storm lineup, the Typhoon had me move further right with me my feet due to the weaker coverstock. Generally, I see a lot of over-reaction with angular balls when I move closer to the friction. The Typhoon was a little different here. It was still angular but read the midlane a little stronger giving me the right shape on the lanes. Sometimes I get in the habit of moving too far left with my feet due to the ball I am using in league. This Typhoon will be in my bag as a "just in-case" ball because it allows me to move back to the right more frequently. I recommend the Typhoon to those who bowl on high friction lane surfaces on a house pattern that is not too long in length. I think the ideal conditions for this ball will be in the 38-42ft range for typical house patterns. it would be a nice step down in length from a Phaze AI and Equinox. It does produce a fair amount of angle down lane so the shape is pretty nice who like to see that skid/flip type of ball motion. This ball would also be very good for a longer game tournament on a condition where length and angle is required. Lower rev rates and slower ball speeds will also like this to help the ball get down the lane more especially closer to the friction. Adam Chase Storm Staff

    Storm Typhoon

Posted by Dannial Cohen on Apr 24th 2025

Storm Typhoon Ball Review Layout-4.5x3.5x2 Surface -Poweredge RG-2.53 Differential-.042 Symmetrical Core Coverstock-Reactor Storm Typhoon features the Atmos Core with AI Technology wrapped with the Reactor Coverstock. The Typhoon will be a great option on medium to dry lane conditions when you need length but with a strong backend. The Typhoon offers a lot of performance for a Hot line ball so it’s a great value for the price. For me the Typhoon is going to be a great option when my IQ Tour AI is too strong and I need more length but a strong motion down lane. The Reactor Coverstock allows the Typhoon skid down the lane very easily so it’s to be great when the lane pattern starts to dry up.I also compared it to my Road Warrior it was cleaner with a stronger backend.

    Storm Typhoon – WWRD 4/18/2025

Cover: Reactor Pearl Reactive Core: Atmos + A.I. RG: 2.53 RG. Diff.: 0.042 Finish: Power Edge Fragrance: Grape Punch Storm’s new Typhoon is a Pearl Symmetrical piece that is good for Medium-Dry Volume patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. Drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers and CG kicked out 1” from the palm. I threw this piece on a Fresh 43’ house pattern. Out of Box ball motion was clean through the fronts with a strong backend reaction through the pins. I compared this to the Road Warrior. Road Warrior was 4-4 left of the Typhoon. Road Warrior has a sharper backend motion. The Typhoon fits between the Road Warrior and the Tropical Surge Midnight. This piece will be good for all types of styles. Storm Typhoon Review

Posted by Tobias Myers on Apr 20th 2025

The new Storm Typhoon features the Reactor Pearl Reactive cover, Atmos A.I. Core, and Power Edge finish. This is the newest ball in the hot line and it's been a minute since we have seen a ball in the hot line. This ball has a RG of 2.53 and diff of 0.042 which we have not seen these numbers on a ball in a while. This ball will sit towards the bottom of the bag but is also going to be stronger than expected being in the hot line. This ball will be in the IQ Ruby and Road Warrior range strength wise but a touch cleaner with more backend than both of them. This will be a good ball when the lanes break down and you need the cleaner option to get down the lane but still have enough to get back. This is another fantastic release from Storm! Typhoon

Posted by Michael Slatky on Apr 19th 2025

Storm Typhoon Coverstock: Reactor Pearl Reactive Finish: Power Edge Core: Atmos A.I. (14 pd) RG: 2.53 Differential: 0.039 Layout: 5 x 4 x 3 1/2 - 2LS Layout Extras: 2 1/8 Finger Depth, "X" - 4 1/2 D and 1 Inch Left Tester: PAP 6 1/2 R, 1 1/4 D Review: The Typhoon features the Atmos A.I. core. This core will provide a more predictable shape for your arsenal at the end of the pattern. As A.I. core technology has advanced that means a few extra percentage points of carry can be anticipated. The newest of SPI releases with A.I. have performed exceptionally well and we feel the Typhoon is going to be sneaky good. For my review, I compared the Typhoon to the Road Warrior. For me, the Road Warrior cover/combination is very good. The Typhoon is very similar to the Road Warrior but the Typhoon has a touch more length and not as quick to change directions. This can be very valuable when control is key. I recommend a player use both types of balls on medium/dry lanes and see how your bowling eyes adapt to transition. The Road Warrior has R2S Deep which is something I already really like in the arsenal. I think the Typhoon is going to compliment the Road Warrior very well moving forward. The Typhoon bonus is that it is finished with Power Edge compared to Reacta Gloss which has not been used for awhile. I am pleasantly surprised how the OOB finish looks on the Typhoon and will test even further before changing the surface. As noted above, the Typhoon will fit well for your medium/medium dry type THS patterns. SPI has really upgraded the lower end of the arsenal with the Typhoon. I'm definitely excited about this ball from Storm.
