    Global Viking Ball review

Posted by Sandy McIntire on Dec 15th 2025

Introducing the 900 Global Viking with the Strobe AI Core and hybrid reactive coverstock. This ball is ideal for medium to heavy oil conditions when you need strong and continuous backend I am slightly speed dominant, rev challenged 220-250ish, low tilt and high rotation. I drilled mine 25 x 3.75 x 20. My axis point is 4 3/8 over 1 3/8 up. This ball is good for me on medium oil conditions. I made a small surface adjustment hitting the cover with a used 2k pad to get my ball to read the midlane more and it worked like a charm. Go get yours at your local Storm VIP shop today! Great with shine knocked off.

For me, out of the box the 900 Global Viking was not one of my favorite new releases. I found the reaction to be too much over/under for my liking. Asymms are very hit or miss for me. I did find a much better reaction when I scuffed the surface and removed the polish. That blended out the reaction and made the ball much more forgiving for me. It works well on my house shot, but it has been looking great in my sport shot league on our 40 foot pattern we are currently bowling. On the sport pattern it gives me a rounded shape and it very forward at the break point. This allows me to keep my angles straighter and not worry about the ball jumping off of the back of the pattern.

900 Global Viking Review by Casey Murphy

Orientation: Right Handed Rev Rate: 400 RPM Speed: 16-17 MPH PAP: 4 1/8 over and 1 up Location: Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield MO Pattern: High Volume THS VLS Layout: Layout 1: 4 3/8 x 4 x 2 ½ (Pin above bridge) Layout 2: 4 x 4 x 3 7/8 (pin below bridge) Strength Rating (out of 10) : 7.5 Shape: Skid Snap Best Use: Medium/Heavy Oil Transition The Viking is a new Hybrid Asym from 900 Global. It replaces the Origin and basically its cleaner and quicker and more forward. It feels more like a Pearl than a Hybrid, and I can use it to get more cleanly through the fronts and backend more. The Origin felt more like a ball 1, the first ball out of the bag. The Viking can be used like that but you’re going to have to move more towards the friction and if the backends are too sharp you’re not going to have throw something else. But if you need a ball for transition or just overall friction, the Viking is going to be great!

    Transition Gem

This new asymmetrical hybrid from Storm for me is a better version of the original Origin. Threw my favorite layout on it, 5 x 4 x 2 pin over bridge. Out of the box clean with a hockey stick backend motion. Really opens up angles for me at my slower speed. Impressive part of this ball is the continuation. There's no quit or forward for me. The free skid and clean motion along with the hard arc backend is something that fits my style. The motion also allowed me to keep moving left but still have the continuation to carry out corners. This is a transition ball that will help me keep up with the competition. I also tried the Viking with a cover change to 2000 on a heavier condition. The cover seems very versatile, earlier motion but still had some of the hybrid pop out of box. Definite ball of the year opportunity for 900 Global, a must have for the bag.

The Viking Bowling Ball features a hybrid coverstock that creates a strong yet controlled motion on the lanes. With the 3.75x4x2.25 layout, it offers a smooth reaction through the mid-lane and a dependable finish at the backend. Its blend of length and versatility makes it well-suited for medium to heavier oil patterns. Overall, the Viking provides a reliable and powerful option for bowlers seeking consistency and performance.

    900 Global Viking

900 Global Viking Ball Review The Viking features a new asymmetrical core with the RB 90 Hybrid coverstock with 2 parts pearl and 1 part solid in the coverstock. RG 2.51 Diff .052 Int Diff .016 Asymmetrical Core Poweredge I drilled mine 5.25x4x2 using the VLS Layout System which gives me a faster response to the friction. I found the Viking to very clean through the fronts but still reads the midlane with a very responsive backend. I compared the Viking to the orginal Origin and i found the Origin to read the midlane a little earlier with a smooth motion on the backend while the Viking was cleaner with a stronger backend. I feel like the Viking will be a great ball to use once the lanes have gone through that first transition and you need more backend motion. The Viking will be stronger than the Ember or Zen 25.

    The Viking is outstanding!

Well, I will admittedly tell you, I will never judge a book by its cover, or in this case, a ball by its cover, ever again, because the all-new 900 Global Viking is outstanding! The Viking is a fantastic combination of Strobe A.I. Core and RB 90 Hybrid Coverstock, making the Viking one of the best balls of the year for straighter, low-rev players like me. So, let's take a closer look at 900 Global's latest success-the Viking! From my first roll with the Viking, I could tell the all-new Strobe A.I. core was created for success for any straighter, low-rev players like me. Although I drilled my Viking quite aggressively, the most outstanding feature I found in the Strobe A.I. Core was its balance, precision, and power throughout the lane. I liked how the Strobe A.I. Core had a vibrant yet balanced motion in the mid-lane that gave the Viking time to react to my low-rev hand, and that time provided the Viking with an outstanding amount of energy that exploded as it came off the pattern. I loved the power the Strobe A.I. core had; it steamrolled through the deck, and when I can watch corner pins start flying out of my way, I know I have the strongest continuation I could ask for. So, for me, there was no question: the Strobe A.I. Core in the Viking will deliver results for any straighter player like me. And ff you are a straighter, low-rev player, drill the Viking aggressively; it will respond with striking results. Those who know my reviews know I like to promote Hybrid coverstocks for straighter players, especially those players who predominantly roll on a THS. Well, 900 Global created an outstanding blend of solid and pearl, making up the RB 90 Hybrid Coverstock, and its results on a THS were fantastic. The factory Power-Edge finish on the Viking provides a great overall look. I found the RB 90 Hybrid to be clean and smooth in the mid-lane, with just the right amount of crispness to keep the Viking from being oversensitive and jumpy as the lanes transitioned. Now, mind you, 900 Global claims the Viking was designed with transition in mind for many players, and the RB 90 Hybrid coverstock lives up to all they claim. Yet, I will tell you: if you are a straighter player like me, bowling on a THS, the RB 90 Hybrid coverstock will deliver an entire night of powerful striking ability with a minor surface change. I hit my Viking with a 3000-grit Abralon pad to see how it reacted to fresh conditions. And I will tell you my Viking not only performed beautifully on the fresh, as it cleared the fronts with ease and kept that same smooth, crisp motion in the mid-lane like the stock Power Edge finish, but that minor 3000-grit surface tweak gave me the confidence to move in considerably during the transition and created an entry angle that gave me those dancing pins and actual messengers that I usually don't get to see. So, if you're a straighter player like me, the RB 90 Hybrid coverstock will be a game-changer! In closing, the 900 Global Viking is an outstanding new release from 900 Global. The Viking is a fantastic combination of Strobe A.I. Core and RB 90 Hybrid coverstock that will undoubtedly fit any straighter player's THS arsenal. The Viking is a vibrant, powerful ball that lives up to what 900 Global claims and then some! Lastly, to those who compare it to the Origin before rolling it, I say don't judge a ball by its cover, judge it by its results! Viking Review by Kyle, Joel, & Dean Johnson

Posted by Kyle, Joel, & Dean Johnson on Dec 5th 2025

900 Global Viking Cover: 2000 Grit RB 89™ Hybrid Reactive with Power Edge Core: Strobe™ + A.I. Core (Asymmetrical) Color: Copper/Steel/Deep Purple Review: Seeing the Origin AKA the sleeper ball of the year go discontinued was a sad day. We were hoping the Viking was a direct replacement for this type of shape and reaction that the Origin had. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 5x4x2 (pin is above bridge). Even with a new core and different cover combination the Viking shows a lot of similarities in shape and strength. The Viking has a touch less overall hook which in our eyes makes this a more versatile piece. It is also a little bit cleaner through the front part of the lane. Usually in a 3 game league set we can open with the Origin and transition to a different piece in late game 2/game 3. The Viking is something that can work for a whole set with a volume/pattern that allows for it like some league conditions. If you like starting left and the Viking doesn’t quite do the job then this is a great ball down choice from an Origin or other SPI pieces like an Ion Max, Equinox Solid, RST Hyperdrive, etc. The look and colors of this ball really fits with the 900 Global line. They aren’t overly flashy, and they don’t have a scent, but they get the job done in more ways than one. This is a great follow up to the original Origin and a versatile piece you don’t want to miss out on. 900 Global Viking

TESTING ENVIRONMENT Type: Lakes Bowl House Shot BALL: 900 Global Viking Coverstock: Reserve Blend 90 Core: : Strobe A.I. Core Finish: Power Edge RG: 2.52 (14 Pounds) Differential: 0.051 (14 Pounds) MB/PSA: 0.014 (14 Pounds) ME: Right-Handed Tweener Speed: 14-15 mph Rev Rate: 220 PAP: 5 7/16 Right 1/8 Down Ball Layout: 60x4¾x30 So 900 Global says “The Viking is built for battle. Created in small batches with precision and pride, the Viking pairs the Strobe A.I. Core with a responsive hybrid shell for motion. It's the kind of ball you can trust to show up every time.” The Viking was a pleasant surprise as from the marketing it is sold as a transition to burn ball, but I find it a touch stronger of a ball where balls like the P2P or Cove could be a transition to burn ball in my opinion. Knowing that this ball was going to be also similar to an Origin I had big hopes before putting holes in it and after again I was pleasantly surprised. Bowling with and around a lot of higher rev rate guys it really helps me see and understand this ball faster. I usually start the night off with the ION Pro Solid and get into the Viking around the end of game two/start of game three. Typically when I catch a pair with more high rev rate guys I will tend to move 2-3 boards left after every half a game. This ball can be used by players with a softer ball speed on fresh and straighter angles or as a transition ball for guys with a bigger rev rate. I think this ball will be in many tournament players' bags and with the PBA starting in a few months looking to see how many of these are used on tour. 900 Global Viking

Posted by Matt Fazzone on Dec 1st 2025

The 900 Global Strobe AI, featuring the AI Core and RB 90 Hybrid cover, delivers a clean look through the front with impressive continuation downlane. I drilled mine 5 x 4 x 2, and this layout really enhances the ball’s ability to clear the midlane while unleashing strong, angular motion at the breakpoint. On lane transition—especially when the fronts begin to hook—the Strobe AI shines. Its cleaner asymmetrical design helps it glide through early friction, and the hybrid cover provides a strong yet controlled response when it encounters friction downlane. The result is a ball that corners hard and shapes beautifully when you need something with pop from deeper angles. Overall, the Strobe AI is a great option for bowlers looking for a clean, quick-responding asym that comes alive as the lanes open up.
