900 Global Zen U - AKA Cheat Code

Posted by Joel Donner on Apr 11th 2023

About Me 900 Global Staff Left Handed: High Rev High Speed Player Pap: - 47/8 +1 Rev Rate: +-500 Speed 17-18mph Layout: 60 x 5 x 30 Ball Video: https://youtu.be/bnhbT6hLMzQ 900 Global’s Zen U is nothing less than a cheat code. This ball is so smooth it’s ridiculous. The Urethane+ cover stock makes the Zen U smooth out about any lane conditions, not all but most. Yes, the reaction of the ball is early but is so smooth and still is able to finish through the pocket. This ball will fill a good gap for you if you throw traditional urethane to reactive equipment or it’s undoubtedly a great ball for cliffed house shots. The Zen U takes me back to when the first reactive resin balls came out on how smooth they were and controllable. The Zen U is extremely controllable and a ball that is going to be religiously in my bag for any league or tournament I go to. What I also like about this ball is that if you throw it wrong it will show you but still find a way to adjust to the lanes and make it to the pocket unless you throw it incredibly bad. This ball is what my friends and I call a pallet ball, we would order a pallet of Zen U’s and keep on drilling it year after year. If you don’t have one yet you should definitely get one. Control!

Zen U – Control, control, control! This ball is very smooth off spot and very controllable. When the lanes are a bit too jumpy for reactive, I can pull this out and control that down lane motion. Great piece to have in the bag for tournament season!

    Zen U

Posted by Brandon Boyer on Apr 4th 2023

The Zen U is 900 Globals newest urethane piece. It features the Meditate LD Core which is the original Meditate core but it has a lower density which helps it have a huge amount of control while still shaping as much as you need urethane to. The Zen U is also wrapped with the S35 Urethane+ which helps this ball see the lane much quicker than traditional urethane. I drilled my Zen U with a basic 4x4x2 layout because I am 20mph of my hand and a revrate of 550 I need help getting balls into a roll quicker and this Zen U definitely achieves that for me. I struggled a lot on shorter patterns getting any urethane to shape enough. No matter how much surface I used it still wasn’t enough. But then the Rubicon UC3 is usually a little bit too much most times. The Zen U is the perfect fit for me on most patterns. But where it shines best is when it comes to cliffed house shots. For me my main house I bowl at has HPLs for lanes and it is a very high friction house so they tend to flood the middle of the lane and the Zen U is the perfect ball for me at combatting them. Another great thing about it is that it takes surface change extremely well. It rolls well with 500 on it and it rolls well shined up. My biggest plus about the Zen U is that it doesn’t transition lanes like regular urethane does. It doesn’t create any carry down whatsoever which is a huge plus for me. But if your looking for a semi strong but very smooth and predictable motion then look no further than the Zen U!

    900 Global Zen U

Ball Specs: Global Zen U Cover : S35+ Urethane Solid Cover Finish: 1000 Grit Sanded Core : Meditate (Symmetric) The UC3 has been one of my favorite urethane balls to ever be released but sometimes it can be a bit too strong. Typically I would go to my Fast Pitch, but not the same motion and a big step down from the UC3, enter the Zen U. The Zen U fits perfectly in between the UC3 and Fast Pitch. The Zen U is a perfect mix of smooth and control. I do not throw urethane much on league but when the lanes start to "cliff", the Zen U is the perfect combatant. It is strong enough to hook in the oil, but also has a controlled reaction off the dry. The thing that impressed me the most, was the corner pin carry. With most urethane, you sacrifice carry for control, but with the Zen U you do not have to make that sacrifice. The Zen U was another great addition to an already great ZEN line.

    Zen U

Posted by Todd B on Mar 27th 2023

The 900 Global line introduces its newest urethane entry, the Zen U. The Zen U features the all new S35 Urethane Plus coverstock, and the highly successful Meditate symmetric core. The Zen U in 15 pounds features a RG of 2.56 and a differential of .027. I drilled my Zen U 4 x 4 x 2, just a basic drilling which puts the pin above my ring finger. The Zen U is not your grandfather’s urethane ball. The Zen U reads the lane early just like most solid urethane balls, the difference with the Zen U is the continuation of the back of the pattern. Where most urethane balls just keep going forward, the Zen U definitely has a more arcing backend motion. As I do not drill many urethane balls and this is the first Global urethane I have thrown, it is hard to compare them. However, I can say that I have drilled a Pitch Black and a Pitch Purple. For me the Zen U fits right in between these two. It reads early like the Pitch Black but has a little more left on the backend but not as much as the Pitch Purple which for me was more like an entry level reactive reaction than a urethane reaction. The Zen U will be a great go to ball on the short sport patterns or a lighter oil condition where you are looking for a controlled reaction. This ball does not lack in hitting power for a urethane ball. Being able to stay right, I was able to throw messengers at those “urethane” corner pins that stayed standing.

900 Global Zen U Ball Review by PJ Haggerty

Posted by PJ Haggerty on Mar 23rd 2023

As we all know, Urethane continues to become more and more relevant in todays game. The newest addition to the 900 Global Line is the Zen U. The original Zen is still a home run in the current line, so our wizards in Utah used the same core (Mediate) and wrapped the Zen U with the s35 Urethane+ coverstock to give us a winning combination. I’ve had a ton of success with the Zen U on multiple patterns and it’s earned a spot in my tournament bags. I’ve drilled two so far but have had a lot of success with one of them. This one is mapped out as 5 x 3.5 x 3.5. This puts the pin below my bridge with a good size shift of the CG. Comparing the Zen U to the Pitch Black, I have this one cleaner and more responsive down lane. When my Pitch Black is too early in the front part of the lane, I’ve had success not moving my feet and going right to the Zen U to keep my angles in front of me. If you’re doing to drill this ball, expect a quicker response time and more down-lane motion that previous Urethane balls. It’s been great for blending out those wet/dry patterns and still keeping an extremely smooth motion. Go drill one!

Zen U Review by Tommy Gollick

The Zen U is a new Urethane bowling ball from 900 Global. This new offering features the new Meditate LD core as well as the all new s35 Urethane+ cover. This combination of cover and core is designed to provide the bowler with control on very short and or over-walled patterns. The numbers are 2.56 Rg with a 0.027 diff in 15lb bowling balls. I drilled my Zen U with a 3.75” pin distance and a 1.5” pin buffer. I wanted to try and maximize flare as I don’t have an ultra high rev rate, and to also compliment a Pitch Black with a very similar layout. Oftentimes during regional events, there is so much oil on the lanes on these shorter patterns that I just don't have enough hand to maximize the mistake room that is built into the patterns that higher rev rate bowlers can generate. My Pitch Black is very close early on when the lanes are fresh, but as the day goes on, I need a little more all around ball motion. This Zen U makes me excited to see regional play again, and hopefully some short high volume patterns. I am looking forward to this upcoming tournament season, and being able to use the Zen U. Lower left to right ratio patterns with high volumes lend to bowling balls with hook and control. Having the Zen U in my arsenal is a must. Thank you for reading my review of the 900 Global Zen U.

    900 Global Zen U

Posted by Michael LeViner on Mar 19th 2023

The Zen U is another entry in the evolution of the urethane bowling balls of today, as they continue to experience a renaissance in the bowling world. As more and more urethane balls are introduced, they seek to stake out a particular spot in the market, and I think the Zen U certainly has done that: a urethane ball that creates a little more backend reaction than a urethane ball traditionally would. That allows this ball to be used at slightly different times than other urethane bowling balls. When other urethane balls would hook too early and lose energy, the Zen U can continue to be used. With that being said, the Zen U is still best used on medium to light sport shots where there is still some oil in the heads, or for 2 handers on over/under house shots.

900 Global Zen U Layout: 4 x 4 x 2 Storm Pin Buffer Layout Rev Rate: 325 rpm, 7 degree of axis tilt, 40 degree of axis rotation Testing information: 41 foot THS (medium to light volume) Bowling Center: Fulton Bowling Center Kegel Machine – Brunswick Anvilane The 900 Global Zen U utilizes the Meditate core and S35 Urethane+ coverstock. The Zen U produces the same amount of board coverage the Pitch Purple provided and that other competitor’s purple ball. The Zen U will be great for us bowlers that are a little rev challenged but still need some the control of an urethane ball on those sport patterns. 900 Global Zen U Ball Review

Posted by Pete Dohan on Mar 15th 2023

900 Global Zen U Ball Review Bowler Stats: Speed: 15.5 MPH Rev Rate: 300 RPM Tilt: 3-5 degrees Axis Rotation: 60 degrees PAP: 5 ⅜ over 1 ¼ up Layout: 41/4 X 41/4 X 2 VLS Video Review: https://youtu.be/TPFnxQ9TPVk Having a lower rev rate I do not use urethane a lot. I drilled a UC3 before the 2022 PBA Senior Tour just to have it in case a urethane option was needed on the Del Ballard 36’ pattern. With the Zen U ball motion fitting in between the weaker Pitch Black and stronger UC3, I wanted to see what shape the Zen U would give me. For me this urethane option does just that. It is not as early as the UC3 but has a smoother shape to the pocket down lane than the very slow shaping Pitch Black. In my video ball review I did use it at a center that has a lot of friction and with the out of box surface. If the scenario calls for me to use the Zen U, I will need to add more surface to the ball so the continuous shape it makes lasts longer due to lane shine. For the upcoming 2023 PBA 50 Tour we will be bowling at Sam’s Town in Vegas and on the Del Ballard pattern for the World Series of bowling so the Zen U will be in the bag just in case urethane is in play.
