900 Global Portal Bowling Ball

900 Global Portal 4 3/4 x4 1/2 x2. Asymmetrical Solid featuring the RB92 cover with the Conduit AI core with Power Edge out of the box. This ball is way different than anything we've seen in a while. It is definitely super clean with the polish. A lot of guys are taking the shine off before even drilling it but I left mine at box finish just to see how it looked. I see myself throwing this ball when the lanes get a little choppy and the fronts go and I need something a little angular off the spot. Because of its cleaner cover I realized I needed to be more forward with my hand or the ball never saw the lane in time. I think this Portal will be a great league ball for house shots or in centers that have more built in friction. Coverstock: RB 92 Solid Weight Block: Conduit A.I. Core RG: 2.59 RG. Diff.: 0.050 Finish: Power Edge 900 Global’s new Portal is a Solid Asymmetrical piece that is good for Medium Volume patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. I drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers, CG kicked out 1” from the palm, and 1” Left of the Mass Bias. 5 x 4 x 2 ½. I threw this piece on a Fresh 38’ house pattern. Out of Box ball motion was clean through the fronts with a strong reaction on the backend. I compared this to Vengeance and Ion Pro Solid. Vengeance started earlier with a smoother shape on the backend. Ion Pro Solid has a smoother motion on the backend and was 2-3 boards weaker than the Portal. Layout: 5 x 5 x 2 Surface: 2000 Abralon Rev Rate: 440 Tilt: 11* The Portal is a brand new ball for the 900 Global lineup that brings a unique perspective for ball motion. It utilizes the new Conduit-AI Core which is a very high RG, high differential and high intermediate differential which is a combination that is not common within bowling balls. It is paired with the RB-92 Solid coverstock to give it a bunch of added traction. When watching the initial ball videos of this ball, I was a little skeptical with my higher ball speed that I would have a lot of trouble getting this ball to slow down in the right part of the lane. I put the surface to 2000 abralon prior to drilling to allow it to slow down a little faster than was intended. I was really surprised on how good the ball reaction was on this Portal. Considering how high the RG value is, it really didn't have problems slowing down. It got through the front part of the lane with ease and read the midlane relatively strong for what it is. I did find however, the shots that were fast off my hand did have some trouble seeing the lane right. I did have to make sure that I did roll the ball more forward for the correct ball reaction. This also makes sense to me because this ball wasn't necessarily designed for fresh conditions. More as a first or second transition ball is where I put this one, especially with the polished box surface. I would still use balls such as the Viking Conquest or Vengeance and then transition to this ball as you need more angle. At the 2000 abralon finish, I was able to bring the Portal reaction closer to the balls I mentioned while still allowing it to be significantly cleaner. If you are a bowler with low ball speed or are in a high friction lane environment, this will be a really good to have. Speed dominant bowlers and high oil volume conditions would likely struggle more with this and it would put it towards the bottom of the bag which would give better opportunity for weaker and cheaper options. This new asymmetrical ball features the all-new Conduit AI Core, topped with the RB 92 Solid Reactive Cover stock, and finished with Power Edge technology. Its high RG rating makes the Portal one of the strongest asymmetrical balls I’ve thrown. With the RB 92 cover, the Portal develops a sharp backend motion, with the right amount of traction. Ball layout: 50 x 5 x 35. I tested the Portal on my home centers 42ft league pattern and all I can say is, I just couldn’t stop striking. Unlike all 900 Global balls I have thrown to date, the Portal resulted in a ball I didn’t expect to look so clean and sharp with this core. What’s unique is I can play almost any target on the lane with the correct ball speed, and the Portal can create an interesting shape without over hooking. It’s like poetry in motion, just simply pure and predictable. Smooth as butter, and blends so well in the oil for a solid that’s a pearl. This ball reminds me of the Ion Pro Solid, only a little cleaner and sharper down lane. It has that benchmark feel and versatility bowlers are always looking for. I would find the Portal to work well on medium-heavy lane conditions, as well as a great transitional piece once the lanes start to open up and you want to play the big hook. 900 Global Portal — RB 92 Solid Reactive | Conduit A.I. Core | RG 2.59 | Diff 0.050 | Box Finish: Storm Power Edge The Portal gives me a really nice combination of length and strong backend motion. With my high rev rate and medium-to-high speed, I like that it clears the front of the lane easily but still picks up enough in the midlane to stay predictable. Once it gets downlane, it really comes alive and makes a strong, continuous move toward the pocket without feeling uncontrollable. I can see this being a great ball when I need something that saves energy and gives me a strong move downlane. What I really like about the Portal is how smooth and predictable it is while still having plenty of backend. It's cleaner and quicker off the spot than some of my stronger equipment, which makes it a great option as the lanes start to open up. I can move inside as the night goes on without losing the ball's shape, and it still carries really well through the pins. For my game, the Portal is a great medium-condition ball that gives me the length and backend I like without being too aggressive.

The new core is very interesting and helps the ball continue through the pins. I do not see an angular motion as advertised and most of my bowlers at the Matchmaker and with their own Portals are experiencing the same. The Portal seems to be less affected by oily or dry conditions than most other balls. The Portal hooks on dry and when you play in the oil. I do like the way the ball goes through the pins and exits the pin deck. I have had this ball in the hands of different players with varying styles with good success. This ball also rolls very good when sanded to 2000 or 3000. The Portal has added a ball motion I have not seen before. Summary: The Portal rolls different and is not like other balls. This ball is string and predictable. The Portal is a very unique piece from 900 Global. 900 Global Portal Cover: RB 92™ Solid Reactive with Power Edge Core: Conduit™ + A.I. Core (Symmetrical) Color: Red Review: This is an interesting bowling ball for many reasons. Just by looking at the core shape you can tell this ball is different. We really like how the 900 Global stuff fills those niche gaps in bowling ball arsenals. This is a shape they do not have. A solid that reacts more like a hybrid or pearl but still rolls like a solid. It is really cool for people who like that predictable smooth shape just later down lane. This ball is sharp for a solid but not as hockey stick shape as you get from some pearls, and it really blends the over/under well because of these points. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 5x4x2 (pin is above bridge). Our first thoughts are this is a ball you can start with but definitely something that you probably won’t finish with. It looks great on fresh but for the transition and carry down during back to back leagues it did not look good. It was way too smooth for the burn and lost a lot of continuation. If you are looking for a unique shape and you love solid covers this is a must have. There really isn’t any shape like this from SPI out, and I don’t remember the last time I have seen something like this from them. The 900 Global Portal has been a really interesting addition to my bag. I drilled mine 5 × 4 × 2.5, and the first thing that stood out to me was how cleanly it gets through the front of the lane, even with its aggressive coverstock. What I really like about the Portal is how it responds to different lane conditions. On a wet/dry condition, the ball can really respond to the friction and create the sharper change of direction you want. On a more blended condition, I’ve seen it read a little sooner, make a smoother transition through the midlane, and continue strongly through the pins rather than making that sudden move downlane. For me, that combination of length, traction, and strong continuation makes the Portal very versatile. It can create plenty of shape when the lane calls for it, but it doesn't have to be a hockey-stick reaction every time you throw it. The ball gives me a predictable motion that I can trust while still having plenty of energy through the pins. If you're looking for a ball that can give you clean length, a strong midlane read, and different shapes depending on the lane, the 900 Global Portal is definitely worth putting on your radar. It has quickly become a ball that I can see fitting into a variety of conditions and giving me a reaction I can trust.

The 900 Global Portal has been a really fun piece for me to get on the lanes. This is a ball that gives me a great combination of traction, continuation, and control without feeling like it wants to take over the lane. For reference, I’m a Right-Handed Tweener with 14–15 mph ball speed, a 220 rev rate, and a PAP of 6 1/8 → 1/2 Up. My Portal is drilled 45 x 4.5 x 45. What I really like about the Portal is how readable it is through the front of the lane while still giving me enough response downlane. It blends the lane nicely and gives me a strong, continuous motion through the pins. When I need something that will create traction but still let me stay aggressive with my angles, the Portal fits that role really well. The 45 x 4.5 x 45 layout gives me a predictable shape that I can trust. It’s strong enough to handle some oil, but I can also move in with it as the lane transitions without feeling like I’ve completely lost control of the pocket. For my game, the Portal is a versatile piece that gives me the kind of motion I’m looking for: traction in the midlane, a strong but controlled move off the spot, and plenty of continuation through the pins. If you’re looking for a ball that can give you a strong, readable motion and plenty of versatility, the 900 Global Portal is definitely one to take a look at.
