Behind The Design:

The evolution of the GEM line reaches its peak with the PERFECT GEM. We’ve taken the DNA of the original GEM core and strategically altered its density to integrate seamlessly with our revolutionary A.I. Core Technology. This precise calibration enhances the core's natural physics, thus creating a more continuous motion that maximizes energy transfer through the pins for the most "perfect" ball motion we've engineered to date.

Surrounding this high-torque weight block is our brand-new E-R1™ (EXTREME-Response Version 1) Solid Reactive coverstock. This cutting-edge, nano-free formulation creates a completely different footprint on the lane compared to our previous-generation materials, altering the surface contact zone to blend seamless front- lane cleanliness with a more extreme respsonse down lane. Factory-finished at a 2000-Grit Abralon baseline for an optimal balance of traction and recovery, the E-R1 cover effortlessly glides through the heads to preserve its extreme response to friction down lane even as the oil pattern begins to transition.

Specifically calibrated for Medium/Heavy to Heavy Oil, the PERFECT GEM is for the bowler who craves maximum reaction without the early burnout. THIS IS the cleaner, stronger, and more versatile version of a legend, providing the definitive blend of raw strength and modern continuation into one "perfect" ball.

    This ball is strong

Posted by Nicole Wilson on Oct 22nd 2026

The Perfect Gem is a strong asymmetric solid that gives me a powerful, continuous motion through the pins. With my 50 × 5 × 30 layout, I get a strong midlane read with a defined move on the backend. The 5-inch pin gives me a little more length before the ball really starts to pick up, while still providing plenty of overall hook. What I like about the Perfect Gem is how well it handles heavier volumes of oil without sacrificing continuation. When I need something that can read the lane and still drive through the pins, this ball gives me that option. For me, the Perfect Gem is a great choice on fresh conditions when I need a stronger ball with a predictable reaction.

    Perfect Gem

Posted by Chase Valenzuela on Oct 22nd 2026

The newest iteration in the Gem line is HERE! The original was the ultimate early control ball that continued just enough to not only be good from straighter angles, but also across the lane. When there was a cliff to be blended out or a puddle to cut through, the original Gem was a favorite among leagues bowlers and tour players alike. Perfect Gem builds on that top-of-the-bag versatility, and so far, I have had the Perfect Gem quicker downlane and stronger front-to-back than the original. This ball has been great for me as a transition ball on the house shot. Once the fronts go and the backends stretch, I can take a step left and ball up to the Perfect Gem for a strong, blendy, tippy shape that I can always count on to pick up. It reminds me of the Magic Gem, which I liked with surface, but it is more versatile and more off-the-spot. This has quickly become by favorite solid asym and my go-to ball when they get snotty downlane! -Chase Valenzuela

Roto Grip Perfect Gem review by Chris Pollentier

Roto Grip Perfect Gem Coverstock: E-R1 Solid Reactive Finish: 2000-grit Abralon Core: Gem + A.I. Core RG: 2.49, Diff: 0.057, PSA: 0.017 (15 lb.) VLS Layout: 5 x 4 x 2 Dual Angle Layout: 50 x 5 x 30 PAP: 5 3/16” right x 5/8” up Rev rate: 400 rpm Average speed: 16.5 mph Location: Prairie Lanes, Sun Prairie WI Pattern: Medium volume THS The Roto Grip Perfect Gem is the newest evolution in the Gem series. This time, the Perfect Gem takes the legendary characteristics of the original Gem and updates it with A.I. Core Technology and the new Extreme-Response Solid cover that allows the ball to clear the front part of the lane more easily. The intent is a big-hooking ball that doesn’t burn up too easily and saves energy for a continuous, booming shape down-lane. From what I’ve seen, it’s clear that the Perfect Gem is a very aggressive top-of-the-bag ball that has a more responsive motion down-lane compared to the original Gem. Even though it’s a “big hooking” ball, it’s definitely more useable on a wider variety of patterns and will certainly find more lane time because of its increased versatility. In some ways it reminds me of the Magic Gem was trying to be with its strong hybrid cover – a little cleaner through the front part of the lane and a stronger motion closer to the pins. However, I think the Perfect Gem does a better job delivering on that motion with the addition of the A.I. core and new solid cover. I expect the Perfect Gem to be a great ball for heavy to medium volume patterns and for blending out the over/under reaction you typically see on league house shots. It’s plenty strong out of the box and has plenty of versatility, but I suspect it will become more versatile as it lane-shines after a few games or by adjusting the surface with a 3000- or 4000-grit Abralon pad. The Perfect Gem is my new go-to for heavier volume patterns when I need a bit more shape than what the original Gem was capable of. If you’re looking for a ball with a powerful and aggressive reaction, Roto Grip has created the Perfect Gem! Chris Pollentier Storm Products Pro Shop Staff

    The outstanding Perfect Gem!

RG • 2.49 Differential • .057 PSA •.017 Layout • 4 5/8 x 4 1/8 x 2 5/8 Tester PAP • 5” R, 5/8” D Tester Axis Tilt • 11° Tester Rev Rate • 300 Test Pattern • 42' THS (Typical House Shot) • Modified, Kegel Stone Street They say perfection is unattainable, but with Roto Grip’s release of the awesome Perfect Gem, you have to wonder if that’s true! The Perfect Gem combines the Gem + A.I. technology core with Roto Grip’s all-new E-R1 Solid reactive coverstock, making it an outstanding release worth paying attention to. So, let’s take a closer look at what makes the Perfect Gem the right choice for your arsenal! From the first release off my hand, I could see the Gem + A.I. Core in the Perfect Gem was a force to be reckoned with. I loved how the Gem + A.I. rolled with a brisk mid-lane motion. I loved seeing the Perfect Gem gather momentum as it moved down the lane with its smooth, predictable, continuous motion. Then, as the Perfect Gem reached the end of the pattern, I enjoyed watching the Gem + A.I. Core stand up with authority without losing any of its tenacity, unlike other strong asymmetricals that tend to do that to us, straighter players. Then I watched that tenacity turn into a hard-rolling, pin-crushing monster! I loved how the Gem + A.I. delivered relentless continuation, kicking out corner pins even on my weakest pocket shot. So, if you are a straighter player like me and want a strong, consistent motion to keep you striking, the Gem + A.I. Core will fit your game. I’m not one to tell you the exact chemical mixtures that make up a great coverstock. However, I can tell you that the all-new ER-1 (Extreme Response Version 1) Solid reactive coverstock on the Perfect Gem is a straighter’s delight! The E-R1 glides flawlessly through the front of the lane, then delivers clean, biting traction that gives my Perfect Gem a predictable, stable roll through the mid-lane. Then, as the Perfect Gem finds friction at the end of the pattern, the E-R1 makes its decision and goes to the pocket without looking back! Whether it was the fresh condition at the start of the night or the late-game two transition, I loved the E-R1 solid coverstock’s intense yet predictable response, making it the “perfect” fit for any straighter and down-and-in player like me. In closing, the new Roto Grip Perfect Gem caught me completely off guard! The Perfect Gem is a wonderful new release from Roto Grip! It combines the Gem + A.I. Core with an E-R1 Solid reactive coverstock, making it an excellent choice for any straighter, down-and-in player like me. For straighter players like me, the Perfect Gem is an excellent THS choice for most of the night. For those looking for a pattern ball that is stable, smooth, and predictable yet still gives you that extra “pop” response to keep you striking, the Perfect Gem is a great choice. Perfect Gem Review

Posted by Adam Chase on Oct 13th 2026

Layout: 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 Surface: 2000 Abralon Rev Rate: 440 Tilt: 11* The original Gem was one of my favorite balls when it was in the Roto Grip lineup. I enjoyed how much overall hook it had and how well it continued for me. The Perfect Gem brings that ball reaction but with extra hitting power and even more continuation. The Gem core was brought back but this time with AI technology. This gave the core a higher RG value and higher differential which gives this ball more length and finish compared to the original. The coverstock is joined with the new E-R1 coverstock for extreme response. When I first tried it on my 41ft house pattern, it was very strong as expected. Even for the fresh, it just hooked too much and forced me out the zone that works the best for me, but I can tell that it didn't stop continuing. As I moved left, these strong asymmetrical solid balls tend to quit hooking as they stop their roll face quickly. The Perfect Gem did not do this. As I moved left, it kept hooking more and more down lane. There was no fear that this ball was going to roll out. I had to get about 10 boards left of my usual spot on the fresh to see the ball finally get into the pocket, about 30 with my feet. After I got to board 30 I had to throw it over around board 20 to get it down the lane enough. When I got to the right spot, the Perfect Gem was unbelievable. I was able to get the ball to board 5 at the break point and gave me plenty of recovery into the pocket. When I missed left into the oil, it still hooked enough to get to the pocket and go through the pins the right way. I was blown away how much area left to right I ended up having once I got lined up. I see myself using the Perfect Gem a little more on sport patterns and lower friction environments than my typical house pattern just due to its strength. Its continuation though will allow me to stay in the ball way longer than the original Gem. I recommend this ball to more of the sport pattern bowler where you are going to see more overall oil volume. House patterns could be a little tricky if you don't have much oil on the lanes in general. Speed dominant bowlers will definitely like this one as well as lower rev bowlers who need more help getting hook will like this as well. Adam Chase Storm Staff

    Roto Grip Perfect Gem

Posted by Matt Fazzone on Oct 9th 2026

The Roto Grip Perfect Gem features the GEM+AI Core wrapped in the E-R1 Solid Coverstock. I drilled mine 4 x 4 x 1, and after comparing it to my Storm Alpha Crux, the Perfect Gem reads the lane earlier and provides slightly more overall motion. This ball will be ideal for me on the fresh when there’s a decent amount of volume, or when the Ion Max is just a little too strong. I think the Perfect Gem will favor a wide array of patterns, especially those with heavier volumes, giving me a reliable option when I need that earlier, stronger motion. In my bag, I see this ball fitting perfectly between the Ion Max and Viking Conquest in terms of downlane motion, while serving as a slight step up from the Storm Alpha Crux. If you’re looking for a strong, early-reading option to tackle heavier conditions, the Perfect Gem is definitely one to consider!

    Perfect Gem

Posted by Anthony Fusco on Oct 7th 2026

Roto Grip Perfect Gem 5x4x2. Asymmetrical Solid featuring the E-R1 cover with AI core. A lot of bowlers loved the original Gem. Unfortunately my game never really got along with the original because of how early it was and because of my low rotation it never had enough energy once it got to the pins. Perfect Gem has a slightly higher diff allowing it to get through the fronts a little easier and have more pop down lane which allows me to stay more forward with my release without having to worry about the ball bailing. This one is definitely a bit more responsive than the original Gem. I was also pleasantly surprised at how well it continued through the pins for such a strong cover. I can see myself using this on longer and heavier patterns when I need a strong cover but maybe have to cover a little more of the lane. Get yours today at your local Storm VIP Pro Shop #SquadRG

    THE PERFECT GEM!

Posted by Devon Radford on Oct 7th 2026

The Perfect GEM by Roto Grip is here! The layout is 5 x 4 x 2 (50 x 5 x 30 using the dual angle layout) This is my first ever GEM from the most popular series. This ball has the new E-R1 coverstock, which makes the ball clear the front part of the lane and provides that EXTREME response downlane. The original GEM was slow and chuggy, so I definitely see more length and backend from this Perfect GEM. Adding the A.I. core with this cover, gives it more punch through the pins. This ball will be great for me on heavier oil conditions and longer oil pattern as well. I will be taking this to a few tournaments this season! If you are looking for that big ball, but want more backend and drive through the pins, the Perfect GEM will be the one for you!

Roto Grip Perfect Gem – WWRD 10/2/2026

Posted by Patrick Dombrowski on Oct 6th 2026

Coverstock: E-R1 Solid Reactive Weight Block: Gem + A.I. Core RG: 2.49 RG. Diff.: 0.057 Finish: 2000-Grit Abralon Roto Grip’s new Perfect Gem is a Solid Asymmetrical piece that is good for Medium-Heavy Volume patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. I drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers, CG kicked out 1” from the palm, and 1” Left of the Mass Bias. 5 x 4 x 2 ½. I threw this piece on a Fresh 38’ house pattern. Out of Box ball motion started in the mids with a strong backend reaction through the pins. I couldn’t throw this piece much on the house pattern cause it was a little too dry. I compared this to Wicked Gremlin. Wicked Gremlin is cleaner through the fronts and smoother on the backend than the Perfect Gem. This piece will be good for speed dominant and low rev rate bowlers..
