BEHIND THE DESIGN:

Given success and popularity of the original RST™ Hyperdrive, we felt there was no better time than now to create a follow up that was the ideal complement to the Roto Grip lineup of balls. In order to make sure we got the ideal cover, we put the R&D Team and ball testers to work.

After multiple rounds of testing featuring both hybrid and pearl materials, it was a unanimous decision that we roll with and introduce our newest formulation of pearlized material better known as U-R1™ (ULTRA-Response version 1). Compared to previous nano-free pearl materials, this material provides plenty of push through the front of the lane from every angle, while providing ULTRA response to friction down lane no matter the style of bowler. Lets just say if you thought the original Attention Star was out of this world... WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE THIS!

 Key Features:

  • The RST Hyperdrive Pearl is a pearl asymmetric option that designed for medium to medium/heavy oil conditions.
  • The ball is finished with Power Edge™
  • Core: RST™ + A.I. Core – Same proven core that was used in the solid.
  • Coverstock: U-R1™ Pearl Reactive – NEW pearlized reactive coverstock. It’s nano-free that creates ULTRA response to friction down lane.
  • This combination of Core & Cover generates ease of push through the front of the lane, while providing a strong, responsive, and continuous move at the breakpoint making it ideal for all styles of bowler from a variety of angles on the lane.

Plays Well When:

  • RST™ Hyperdrive – is too early and something cleaner with more reaction down lane is needed.
  • Attention™ Star S2 – is too early and something cleaner with more reaction down lane is needed. Attention™ Star – isn’t quite enough down lane or through the pins.
  • Gremlin™ - isn’t quite strong enough and a stronger core and cover combo is needed.
  • Rockstar™ - is too early and something cleaner with more reaction down lane is needed.

Roto Grip RST Hyperdrive Pearl review by Chris Pollentier

Posted by Chris Pollentier on Oct 5th 2025

Roto Grip RST Hyperdrive Pearl Coverstock: U-R1 Pearl Reactive Finish: Power Edge Core: RST + AI Core RG: 2.52, Diff: 0.055, PSA: 0.017 (15 lb.) VLS Layout: 5 x 4 x 2 1/2 PAP: 5 3/16” right x 5/8” up Rev rate: 400 rpm Average speed: 16.5 mph Location: Prairie Lanes, Sun Prairie WI Pattern: Medium volume THS The Roto Grip RST Hyperdrive Pearl is the latest addition to the HP4 line, this time featuring a new nano-free straight pearl reactive coverstock wrapped around the same proven RST + AI core that was used in the solid version. The intent with this release was to provide a cleaner reaction through the front part of the lane with a strong, responsive, and continuous move at the breakpoint. For me, the Hyperdrive Pearl has proven to be as advertised. I’ve had an opportunity to throw it in league at 3 different houses, and I’ve had no issues with getting this ball to clear the front part of the lane. Compared to other pearl balls that sometimes don’t quite read the middle part of the lane, the Hyperdrive Pearl consistently reads the body of the pattern well and still has plenty of energy to make a defined motion off the back of the lane and into the pins. Even as the lanes transitioned, I was able to move left and stay with the RST Hyperdrive Pearl and it still maintained a clean, strong, and predictable reaction that I very much appreciate. The RST Hyperdrive Pearl is the complement you’d expect to the solid version and is perfect when you want to keep the same line but the original is too early. In comparison to other pearls, I see the Hyperdrive Pearl being the strongest pearl ball in Roto Grip’s current lineup. While it could be the first ball out of your bag on a normal league pattern, I think it’s most at home as the first ball to switch into when the lanes transition and could be used the remainder of the night. The RST Hyperdrive Pearl!

Posted by Rick Klimowicz on Oct 4th 2025

RST Hyperdrive Pearl • Roto Grip • HP4 Series Coverstock • U-R1 Pearl Reactive Finish • Power Edge Core • RST + A.I. Core Weight •15 lb. RG • 2.52 Differential • .055 PSA • .017 Layout • 4 1/8 x 4 1/8 x 2 1/4 Tester PAP • 5” R, 5/8” D Tester Axis Tilt • 11° Tester Rev Rate • 300 Test Pattern • 42' THS (Typical House Shot) • Modified, Kegel Stone Street When you hear the name RST Hyperdrive, you know Roto Grip has created a strong, powerful HP4 Series ball that delivers outstanding results. So, with the release of the RST Hyperdrive Pearl, you can almost guarantee that Roto Grip delivers another striking success, right? Well, that is precisely what Roto Grip has done! The RST Hyperdrive Pearl is a smooth-rolling, pin-crushing weapon that has a place in any straighter player's arsenal. So, let's take a closer look at what's behind the success of the RST Hyperdrive Pearl, and why it belongs in your bag. Like in the original RST Hyperdrive, the RST (Roto Star Tour) + A.I. core in the RST Hyperdrive Pearl brings a lot of energy and excitement to any straighter player's game. I like how the RST +A.I. Core rolls with a vibrant authority as it makes its way down the lane. And as a straighter player, I loved how the RST +A.I. core builds momentum as the RST Hyperdrive Pearl makes its way through the mid-lane. Unlike other asymmetric cores that tend to be lazy and often "roll out" at the pins, I appreciated how the RST + A.I. core continued to build its energy as it headed down the lane. And with the addition of the A.I. Technology wrapped around the RST block, the RST Hyperdrive Pearl blasts through the pins with a strong and steamrolling continuation that my straighter hand can count on to kick out those pesky corner pins. And when my low rev hand is kicking out corner pins, I know I am in for a great night of scoring! So, the RST + A.I. Core is an excellent fit for straighter players. The U-R1 Pearl Reactive cover on the RST Hyperdrive Pearl took me some time to get dialed in; however, once I found the right surface to fit my game, the RST Hyperdrive Pearl performed exceptionally well. I found that the Power Edge finish for my straighter game caused the RST Hyperdrive Pearl to go a bit too long down the lane before finding its roll phase, resulting in a lot of deflection through the pins. However, I know that as a lower rev player, this is quite a typical response I get from Pearl covers, and surface adjustments can make all the difference. And that is precisely what I found with the U-R1 Pearl reactive coverstock. I hit my RST Hyperdrive Pearl with a 3000-grit Abralon pad, and the RST Hyperdrive Pearl lit up the lanes. With this minor surface adjustment, my RST Hyperdrive Pearl gave me the distinctive skid, hook, and roll I was looking for in the transitioning lane conditions. As the night went on, I loved how the U-R1 Pearl reactive blended the wet and dry conditions, and still had a smooth yet crisp turn off the pattern. So, if you are a straighter, low-rev player like me, don't let the "pearl" coverstock on the RST Hyperdrive Pearl discourage you. The Roto Grip R&D department did a great job creating a pearl that we can tweak to bring us fantastic results. In conclusion, Roto Grip has done a great job in designing the RST Hyperdrive Pearl. Straighter players will find that the RST Hyperdrive Pearl has the power and punch we need to reach the pocket, and the smooth, hard-rolling continuation we need to keep us striking against the competition. So, if you are a straighter player like me, stop into your local Storm VIP Pro Shop today and see how the RST Hyperdrive will fit into your arsenal. The RST Hyperdrive Pearl makes a great choice. Roto Grip RST Hyperdrive Pearl

RST Hyperdrive Pearl Ball Review The RST Hyperdrive Pearl uses the RST weight block with AI Technology wrapped with the new U-R1 pearl coverstock. The U-R1 is a nano free formulation so it will create a clean motion through the fronts with a powerful continous backend motion. RG-2.52 Diff-.055 Int Diff-.017 Asymmetrical Core Finish-Poweredge I drilled my RST Hyperdrive Pearl 4.5x4.5x4 3/8 using the storm VLS layout system. The RST Hyperdrive Pearlwill be clean through the fronts with a quick response downlane to create a strong continous backend motion. The RST Hyperdrive Pearl will be a great compliment to the original RST Hyperdrive. The original RST Hyperdrive solid will be a great option to start on heavy oil and when it's too strong or too early the Hyperdrive Pearl will be a great option. I also compared the Gremlin to the Hyperdrive Pearl and found the Gremlin to have a more rounded shape downlane. Rst hyperdrive

I needed a 3rd game ball for league and this Rst Hyperdrive Pearl was the perfect ball for it. I had it drilled 3 3/4 x 5 1/2 x 1 3/4. This layout provided me with and angular and clean motion. Late game ball for when everything is over hooking. Highly recommend!!

    Hyperdrive Pearl

Posted by Zachary Woelfel on Oct 1st 2025

The Roto Grip RST Hyperdrive Pearl is a great option for me when I want that strong asymmetrical motion but with a cleaner, quicker read through the fronts compared to the solid Hyperdrive. The pearl cover lets it glide with ease through the heads, but the RST core still gives me that heavy roll and strong continuation that defines the line. Compared to the Attention Star, the Hyperdrive Pearl is a little cleaner and more angular. For me, the Hyperdrive Pearl really shines in transition on medium to heavier volume patterns when I still want the strength of an asym but need it to store more energy and drive harder through the pins. RST HyperDrive Review by Kyle, Joel, & Dean Johnson

Roto Grip RST Hyperdrive Pearl Coverstock: U-R1™ Pearl Reactive – Power Edge Weight Block: RST™ A.I. Core (Asymmetrical) Color: Space Blue / Deep Purple Review: The RST line returns! If you were waiting to see if this ball was going to be like one of those bad sequel movies that totally flopped then sorry but you’re wrong and very late to the party. This ball with the pearl cover + AI core looks even better than the original. Very smooth, very predictable, and does not need to see dry parts of the lane to hook. Our style: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). The RST line has become a staple for Roto Grip and they hit a home run with this release. This ball looks good on fresh house shots but better and more versatile playing multiple lines on longer sport patterns where you have more volume. Some houses with built in friction may not have enough hold on a house shot for this hook monster. If you are looking for that big pearl piece, or a replacement for an Attention Star, this is the one. RST Hyperdrive Pearl

Posted by Michael Slatky on Sep 29th 2025

Roto Grip RST Hyperdrive Pearl Coverstock: U-R1 Reactive Finish: Power Edge Core: Roto Star Tour A.I. Asymmetric (14pd) RG: 2.54 Differential: 0.055 Int Diff: 0.017 Layout: 5 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 4 Layout Extras: 2 1/2" Finger Depth, "X" - 4 1/2 D and 1 Inch Left Tester: PAP 6 1/2 R, 1 1/4 D Review: The RST Hyperdrive Pearl offers an optimized core design with a new and eye catching coverstock. This design is intended to maximize control while adding more length than the RST Hyperdrive. This ball pour is quite stunning too. The ball intent is to create a motion not readily seen in the SPI line of bowling balls. Bowlers with traditionally lower ball speeds and less revs will absolutely gravitate towards this ball. At recent MatchMaker events a number of players were shocked that the ball rolled well after the Hyperdrive was a bit "too much" for the player. One aspect I like to teach is that if you can achieve length and feel you have a good feeling of ball control it is a win. For me, the RST Hyperdrive has a limited use on house shots. For longer and heavier volume patterns it fits its role nicely. However, the RST Hyperdrive Pearl I am finding use on THS as this ball gets through the front part of the lane with ease. I even scratched mine up with a 3K pad by hand, which provided me more versatility. I'm very excited about this particular ball being a "big" asymmetric with A.I. and initial use has shown the ball has a nice and strong reaction yet I do not need to get overly steep with my angles. This is not what you generally see in most bigger OOB asym pieces. Be sure to grab a Hyperdrive Pearl today. It just might be the surprise of the season. Smooth Operator

Posted by Thomas Szczepaniak on Sep 26th 2025

I decided to go with something a little different on the RST Hyperdrive Pearl. The layout put the pin in my ring finger and it definitely gives me a smoother shape than normal. I was able to try it game 1 of league and I was pleasantly surprised with the reaction. I was able to play a touch more inside than I have been able to with the RST Hyperdrive in recent weeks. Unfortunately, the approaches were pretty rough for me as it was raining all day and a bit humid inside the alley, so I was not able to move left and get comfortable giving the ball a little shape. I am hoping that I can use it this weekend where I know there is a ton of friction. I feel like between the layout, coverstock, AI core and weight block, I gave myself something special in my bag.

This ball is great from different parts of the lane as well as to wear you put it in your current ball line up. For me this ball sits as my #2 ball just under the Origin EX. For bowlers that are needing a bigger ball this can also be their ball at the top of their bag. I used the RST Pearl at a center that is usually wet/dry aka over/under. Most balls we say are really clean, but I found the ball to really grip the lane but never really broke loose. Each game I moved 2-3 boards left and the ball just kept coming into the pocket with out being overly aggressive off the spot. RST Hyper Drive Pearl

RST HYPERDRIVE PEARL - Ball Specs Cover Stock: U-R1 Finish: Power Edge Core: Roto Star Tour (RST) block + A.I. Layout: 50 x 5 x 40 RG: 2.52 Differential: 0.055 Intermediate Diff: .017 Review The RST Hyperdrive Pearl features the RST block with A.I wrapped with the all new U-R1 pearl cover providing a clean push through the fronts of lane, storing energy for a powerful backend motion. I tested this ball on a 42 feet typical house pattern. I was able to stand anywhere from 20 to 32 boards and rolling the RST Hyperdrive Pearl between the 5 and 10 boards with great carry. The RST Hyperdrive Pearl is cleaner and rounder than the Roto Grip Exotic Gem. My ball layout is 50x5x40. This ball is awesome. This ball will be in my bag for league and tournaments. This is a great ball for all levels of bowlers. Order one from your local pro shop today! My ball review videos are posted on YouTube channel Stanley Waite.
