Hustle SOS Review by Casey Murphy

Posted by Casey Murphy on Jul 24th 2026

Orientation: Right Handed Rev Rate: 400 RPM Speed: 16-17 MPH PAP: 4 1/8 over and 1 up Location: Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield MO Pattern: High Volume THS VLS Layout: Layout 1: 4 3/8 x 4 x 2 1/8 (Pin above bridge) Layout 2: 4 x 4 x 3 7/8 (pin below bridge) Strength Rating (out of 10) : 5 Shape: Medium Sharp Best Use: Transition/Light Oil The Hustle SOS is a new hybrid Hustle. It is sharper than any of the solids but smoother than the pearls. It’s the perfect blend of length, continuation and lower flare that you expect from a Hustle series ball. I hit with surface and was able to use it on a fresh shot, but I also let it shine up a little and it will come off the friction pretty well. It slots PERFECTLY between the Xray and the MM/VP. If you’re a Hustle fan, this a great option to add to your bag.

    Hustle SOS

Posted by Scott K. on Jul 24th 2026

The Hustle SOS continues to prove why the Hustle line is one of the best values in bowling. For this review, we drilled it 4x4x2 for a one-handed bowler with 14.5 mph ball speed and a 350 rev rate. On a typical house shot, the SOS provides easy length through the front of the lane, a strong read in the midlane, and a smooth, continuous backend motion. It never feels too angular, making it incredibly forgiving and predictable. This is an excellent choice for league bowlers looking for a reliable benchmark ball or a step down from stronger asymmetrical equipment when the lanes begin to transition. If you're looking for consistency and versatility, the Hustle SOS deserves a spot in your bag.

    Hustle SOS

Roto Grip Hustle SOS Coverstock: VTC Finish: 4000 Grit Abralon Core: Hustle Core (14pd) RG: 2.55 Diff: 0.030 Layout: 5 ¼ x 4 x 4 - 2LS Layout Extras: 2 1/8 Finger Depth, "X" - 4 1/2 D and 1 Inch Left Tester: PAP 6 1/2 R, 1 1/4 D Review: The hustle series continues on with the Hustle SOS. If you enjoyed previous versions of the hustle(s) or new to the hustle line the Hustle SOS is a great choice for any arsenal. The Hustle SOS will work best on medium to drier THS patterns. Also, this ball can be used at the out-of-box finish and can also do well with surface modifications as needed. The Hustle line of bowling balls are well established and continue to perform well. The solid finish is perfectly fine on the SOS. For me, I generally scuff my equipment with a fresh 4k or 3K by hand just to knock the peaks off the ball from the factory. I always suggest to roll the OOB finish first to see what the lanes are telling you to do. Unfortunately, I did not own the OG of the hustle line, which was the original Ink. However, for my comparison I used the Hustle Wine as a baseline. In doing so, the Hustle SOS hooks slightly sooner and is more controlled than my Hustle Wine. In other words, the SOS will be very forgiving on a wide variety of conditions. From my viewpoint the Hustle SOS will definitely make the starter bag due to the fact this ball has a lot of range for many conditions. Also, for shorter sport patters the SOS will possibly give you a good look where you want control after the lanes break down a bit. One of the hardest transitions in bowling is that move from “thane” to other types of balls. The SOS can be used as a good transition out of thane. The Hustle SOS is a nice addition for any arsenal and you'll likely find a spot in the bag for most medium to dry THS patterns. I truly recommend this one for your THS conditions where you desire to move easy with the transition. It's quickly becoming a nice ball to have in the bag. Hustle SOS

Posted by Todd Benner on Jul 23rd 2026

The latest edition to the Hustle line is the SOS which features the VTC Hybrid reactive coverstock with the tried-and-true Hustle core. At 15 pounds the RG is medium at 2.53 with a differential of .030. The BRY is finished at 4000 grit abralon. The Hustle line continues to provide bowlers with excellent performance at the entry level price point. Don’t let the price tag fool you…this ball delivers a lot of bang for your buck! The SOS is a great ball for the beginner as well as the tournament bowler. The SOS with its hybrid coverstock, provides excellent length on medium to light oil conditions. The backend motion of the SOS will be more angular than the Hustle X-Ray. For me the I need to be about 2 -3 boards left with my feet when compared to the X-Ray. The SOS will allow you to play closer to the friction, but because of the quicker response, I need to have a slightly more open angle through the front part of the lane. The Hustle SOS is a quality option for a fraction of the cost of the high-performance balls.

    Hustle SOS

Posted by Zachary Woelfel on Jul 22nd 2026

The Roto Grip Hustle SOS has been an incredibly versatile ball in my bag. It gets through the front of the lane effortlessly, provides a smooth and readable midlane motion, and offers a controllable backend that never feels jumpy. When the lanes begin to break down or I need to stay in play without sacrificing hitting power, the Hustle SOS gives me the confidence to stay aggressive while maintaining excellent control. It's an outstanding benchmark-style piece that performs well far beyond its price point.

    Hustle SOS Review

Posted by Adam Chase on Jul 21st 2026

Layout: 4 1/4 x 5 1/4 x 1 1/2 Surface: 2000 Abralon Rev Rate: 470 Tilt: 13* The Hustle series is back with the new SOS! The proven Hustle core is back with the VTC Hybrid Coverstock finished at 2000 abralon. The dull surface finish gives this Hustle some more teeth in medium to low oil volume. There is proven performance in the Hustle line that is great for up and coming bowlers and competitive bowlers looking for lower hook potential. On my typical house condition, I saw very clean in the front, a good amount of length and a smoother backend as expected at its current surface. What's good about this Hybrid Hustle option, there is ability to use it as a fresh ball and burn ball based on the environment. Add more surface to be used on the fresh and add polish or higher grit surface for more length and backend. Adam Chase Storm Staff

    Hustle S.O.S. is Good!!!

Posted by Dylan Jablonski on Jul 21st 2026

The Hustle S.O.S. has quickly become one of the most reliable balls in my bag. Mine is drilled 55×4.5×50 with a PAP of 4 1/8" right and 7/8" up, and the reaction is exactly what I was looking for. It reads the lane smoothly without being jumpy, blends out the pattern extremely well, and provides a predictable, continuous motion through the pins. Whether I'm bowling on fresh conditions or as the lanes transition, the S.O.S. gives me confidence because it's so versatile and easy to control. If you're looking for a dependable benchmark-style ball that performs on a wide variety of lane conditions, the Hustle S.O.S. is an outstanding choice.

    Hustle SOS

The Hustle SOS features the VTC (Versatile Traction Control) hybrid coverstock. This ball was very surprising to me on how much this ball covered so many boards, especially on on drier lanes. This will be a ball that I can start off with on the fresh, and move left as the games transiition. The layout is 5 x 4 3/4 x 2 3/8. This layout provides more length and a nice round continuous shape through the pins. Definitely a great ball to have a such a very low price point. Get yours at your local Storm VIP Pro shop!

    Hustle SOS

Posted by Chase Valenzuela on Jul 20th 2026

Hustle SOS is the newest hybrid Hustle colorway! The Hustle line is legendary for providing a tour-shape in a slightly weaker package at a great price point. SOS continues that legacy. This is the perfect ball for that last game of league after you've beaten the lanes up with that big solid, or for travel league when you bowl at that one center in town that still has wood lanes or doesn't put out more than 20 mLs. The Hustle line has been a secret weapon for friction, and a way to play straighter on short or flat conditions. The SOS continues the trend of Hustle's outperforming their price point, offering a great ball for beginners, and a great bottom-of-the-bag option for high level players. Hustle SOS is a must-have! -Chase Valenzuela
