Roto Grip Hustle SOS Bowling Ball

The Hustle SOS has been a really good ball for me with the 4.5 × 4 × 2.5 layout. It gets through the front of the lane easily and gives me a smooth, controllable reaction that I can trust. It's become one of my favorite balls to throw when the stronger stuff starts hooking too much.

I drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers and CG kicked out 1” from the palm. 5 x 4 x 2 ½. I threw this piece on a Fresh 42’ house pattern. Out of Box ball motion Clean through the fronts with a smooth controllable motion on the backend. I compared this to the Hustle X-Ray (Solid). I threw the Hustle X-Ray on the same line as the SOS, the X-Ray was a little earlier and forward on the backend compared to the SOS. The Roto Grip Hustle SOS drilled 5 x 5 x 2 has been a great option once the lanes start to transition. The New Hustle SOS expands the HP1 line with a lightly sanded hybrid option. VTC Hybrid finished at 4000 and wrapped around the proven Hustle core helps create the best of both worlds. A little earlier read than the polished Hustles but more length and motion than the dull solids. One of my favorite Hustles of old was the Hustle HYB. It was an outstanding tournament ball and really let me keep my angles straight tougher conditions. I had high hopes of the SOS being the replacement for my tournament bag. I tested the SOS on our house pattern after a session of seniors had bowled. Theyve been getting pretty good volume out this summer so there was still some definite hold and length. I started tenatively playing straighter around 3rd arrow, not really giving the pocket away. Theres lots of volume to our 43ft but the ball did read about where I'd hoped and carried a light strike. I opened the angle to see how it would handle the outside friction and it bogged down a little at the end of the pattern. Not really surprising so I bumped a little right to get more on top of the friction and lane really opened up for me. The ball had the look I wanted when I got it straighter up the lane, and nice even roll, constant read. Once I got closer to the friction I got a better look at the motion when I wanted to create angle. It was a little stronger overall than what I remembered of my HYB but still in a highly useable range for what I wanted so I'm very happy with it. This ball could be a cheat code for speed challenged players at tougher tournaments like the Open Championships. It's got enough surface to not create crazy carry-down but isn't so strong you cant get it through the front. It's also plenty strong enough to make a great first ball purchase for people wanting to try their first reactive ball and it stays relevant in almost any amount of transition. The Hustle SOS hooks earlier than my Hustle VP due to the 4000 sanded hybrid cover on the ball. I moved my feet and target just a bit left from where I was rolling the Hustle VP and was back in the pocket. The Hustle SOS creates a very predictable arch shape on the lane. This ball reads the lane early, but it continues to drive through the pins nicely. This ball hooks more than my Surge Solid but hooks less than my Phase 2. The Hustle Line hits and carries as good as any high-priced ball. I feel this ball is best on a medium condition where control is needed. I have always felt the Hustle line is a great choice for a newer or experienced bowler who does not want to spend a lot on performance. The Hustle SOS shines easily if needed but I prefer it dull because I have a Hustle VP if I need more length and back end. When polished I got a bit more length and backend motion from the SOS while it was very controllable. Whichever one you choose, you really can’t go wrong with a Hustle. Summary: The Hustle SOS is as good as a higher priced ball. The motion is predictable and forgiving. I would recommend this ball for most bowlers. The Hustle SOS seems like it will be more of a transition ball for me than it will be a later in the night type of ball. It has a very smooth shape on the lane which has been my go-to for when the lanes transition this past season. Now my moves with this ball are not as drastic as I mentioned with the Hustle VP but I am also able to play around 10 to 15 and it just sits there for me. The one thing I did notice if I play around 1st arrow the ball is a guaranteed 10 pin which is exactly what I was expecting.
