    Hustle SOS

Posted by William Tefft on Jul 16th 2026

Ball Specs: Hustle SOS Review: The Roto Grip Hustle SOS is the ultimate light-to-medium oil benchmark, pairing the reliable symmetric Hustle core with a versatile matte VTC Hybrid coverstock. Unlike the shiny, angular VP, the SOS reads the midlane earlier and smoother, offering a highly predictable, continuous arc that beautifully blends out wet-and-dry conditions. For high-speed, high-rev power bowlers, this hybrid setup acts as a premier stabilizer on transitional house shots, eliminating the fear of the ball sliding past the breakpoint or over-reacting violently to the dry, giving you supreme pocket control and a readable path to the deck. Hustle SOS by RGR

Posted by Roto Grip Rick on Jul 13th 2026

Roto Grip Hustle SOS Ball Specs: Hustle core wrapped in VTC - Versatile Traction Control hybrid coverstock and the surface is finished from Storm at 4000 grit. Layouts: 2 x 6 x 1 AND 6 x 5 x 4. My Specs: Rev rate 420’s, ball speed 15.3 to 15.8 mph off the hand, axis tilt of 16 degrees and axis rotation of 70 degrees, PAP is 3 13/16th up 1/8th. Tested on Pro-lane and HPL lane surfaces on a 43ft medium volume house pattern and 44ft heavier volume house pattern. The next releases in the VERY POPULAR Hustle line have hit the lanes for the upcoming bowling season. The first one is the SOS, which is the latest hybrid coverstock version. I am a lucky man when it comes to getting equipment drilled and thanks to 2 of my partners, ABC North Lanes Pro Shop and Bowlers’ Supply I was able to obtain 2 Hustle SOS for my arsenal. The first SOS was drilled with my SUPER DUPER favorite layout on HP2 and HP3 line balls with the 2 x 6 x 1. Adding this Hustle SOS with this layout has given me a similar roll but a smidge stronger reaction in the dry part of the lane compared to my faithful Rockstars with identical layout. When the Rockstars are entering the pocket a little weak and flat, I have been moving into the SOS without any hesitation and playing right on top where I was lined up with the Rockstars. The VTC hybrid cover gives a little bit more length and more angle into the pocket in league and tournament play. Now for the next one: the 6 x 5 x 4 layout one, I have been using that at centers that have older HPL and the lane panels are quite worn in, giving me that added length and recovery in the backend versus the 2 x 6 x 1 version. I was missing this piece in my travel bags, where the balls were a Rockstar, Tour X, Gremlin, Vengeance, Ion Solid, and Viking. I was trying to use the Hustle Earth and Glow in the weak part of the arsenal, but both did not fit for what I was looking for. Now I have that piece with the SOS with the 6 x 5 x 4 layout. The HUSTLE line has been a proven line of balls for several years and this one is going to add to that legacy. The best striking ball line in the “entry performance” line across all manufacturers. Stop in at your local PSO to see what the new Hustles are all about. I believe you will be quite surprised by the performance of the Hustle line of balls. The Hustle SOS is brilliant!

Yet many will ask: what’s the big deal? It’s another Hustle, right? Wrong! The truth is, a bowling ball’s success lies in its core-and-cover combination. This time around, Roto Grip has created two wonderful new Hustles that live up to what the original Hustle was created for – overall performance in its class! In this review, we will examine the excellent core-and-coverstock combination that makes up the brilliant Hustle SOS. The Hustle SOS is simply a dynamo in motion and has a place in nearly anyone’s arsenal. So, let’s take a closer look at what makes the SOS such a successful workhorse. The Hustle Core is the staple in the Hustle line. The Hustle Core has a well-balanced shape that gives the Hustle SOS a controllable, stable motion any bowler can depend on. New bowlers will thrive with the smooth motion and stable shape the Hustle Core provides as they learn to roll the ball. Advanced and tournament bowlers will be able to use the medium RG and medium differential to their advantage by creating the shape and motion they need on broken-down, worn-out lane conditions. The Hustle Core is a fantastic, low-cost staple core, and when you add it to the correct coverstock that fits your game, like the VTC Hybrid on the Hustle SOS, you are destined for success. The VTC (Versatile Traction Control) coverstock is a brilliant hybrid mixture that makes the Hustle SOS one of the best Hustles to date! The VTC Hybrid delivers a clean, smooth, and forgiving motion that dominates the competition in its class. On fresh conditions, the VTC Hybrid is clean through the fronts and provides wonderfully smooth traction in the mid-lane. As the pattern started breaking down, I loved how the VTC Hybrid remained just as consistent in the mid-lane as it was on fresh oil. Then, coming off the pattern, whether in fresh or burned conditions, the VTC Hybrid was crisp without being squirrelly or overreacting when it found friction. That allowed the Hustle SOS to retain a good amount of energy to bring a strong continuation to kick out the late-night corner pins. Lastly, to me, color in a coverstock makes a difference, and the blue of the VTC Hybrid coverstock makes the Hustle SOS an excellent choice for any bowler looking for a smooth, predictable, and consistent motion, shot after shot! In closing, Roto Grip has added the brilliant Hustle SOS to its successful Hustle line. The Hustle SOS is the perfect combination of core and cover for bowlers seeking a smooth, clean motion they can depend on. Whether it’s a fresh THS for the new bowler or a burned, challenging pattern for the advanced bowler, the Hustle SOS is a great ball to add consistency to your arsenal. Lastly, the Hustle line is far from an entry-level bowling ball; in fact, it is one of the best LEVEL-ONE bowling balls in its class, and the Hustle SOS is the perfect choice for any bowler looking for a ball that not only gets you started but also one you won’t outgrow! So, stop into your local Storm VIP Pro Shop today and get your Hustle SOS ready for your fall league. Your scores will thank you! Hustle SOS Review by Kyle, Joel, & Dean Johnson

Posted by Kyle, Joel, & Dean Johnson on Jul 7th 2026

Roto Grip Hustle SOS VTC™ Hybrid Reactive 4000 Grit Weight Block: Hustle™ (Symmetrical) Color: Soot/Onyx/Sky (SOS) Review: There is NO reason to not love this line of bowling balls. They cater to literally every bowler in the world, regardless of skill level and is priced so reasonably that its worth its weight in gold. For the seasoned veterans you can expect an extremely versatile low end hybrid, something to keep transition to late in a block if you are needing to move right (even if the conditions are drying up). For the novice bowler you can expect great value in your purchase, getting a great piece of equipment for pennies over an entry level reactive bowling ball. The color options also appeal to novice bowlers who may care more about color than performance. The trusted Hustle core is in many bowling record books for a reason, it’s just that good. SOS baby!! Roto Grip Hustle SOS

Posted by Mike LeViner on Jul 6th 2026

I have had inconsistent success when it comes to sanded Hustles of the past – sometimes the cover strength makes them too strong for when I want to use them. I have no such issues with the SOS; the 4000 grit cover is perfect for pure medium oil. I also really do enjoy the predictable motion that this ball has. It is not “squirty” in oil, and is versatile in the different lines that it can play. I see many ways that this ball can be used, as well – sanded to 1500 or 2000 and it could be a heavier oil ball for slower ball speeds, polished with Power Edge will make it a great control ball for slower ball speeds. The Hustle SOS has a lot of possible uses.

    Hustle SOS

Posted by Carlos Torrero on Jul 5th 2026

The Hustle SOS has been a really good ball for me with the 4.5 × 4 × 2.5 layout. It gets through the front of the lane easily and gives me a smooth, controllable reaction that I can trust. It's become one of my favorite balls to throw when the stronger stuff starts hooking too much.

Roto Grip Hustle SOS – WWRD 6/26/2026

Coverstock: VTC Hybrid Reactive Weight Block: Hustle Core RG: 2.53 RG. Diff.: 0.030 Finish: 4000-Abralon Roto Grip’s new Hustle SOS is a Hybrid Symmetrical piece that is good for Light-Medium Volume patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. I drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers and CG kicked out 1” from the palm. 5 x 4 x 2 ½. I threw this piece on a Fresh 42’ house pattern. Out of Box ball motion Clean through the fronts with a smooth controllable motion on the backend. I compared this to the Hustle X-Ray (Solid). I threw the Hustle X-Ray on the same line as the SOS, the X-Ray was a little earlier and forward on the backend compared to the SOS. This piece will be good for all types of styles beginners to professionals. Check Out my Ball motion Video on my Facebook/YouTube Page: https://www.facebook.com/reel/1713761206604270

    great ball for transition

Posted by Isaiah A on Jul 3rd 2026

The Roto Grip Hustle SOS drilled 5 x 5 x 2 has been a great option once the lanes start to transition. This layout helps the ball get through the fronts clean while providing a smooth, controllable backend that isn't overly aggressive. It's the ball I trust when the stronger pieces begin to hook too early, allowing me to stay in the pocket and keep striking as the pattern breaks down. The Hustle SOS is a reliable benchmark for late-block performance and a must-have in my tournament arsenal.
