Sometimes it's just better to let the R&D Team play around with various core and cover combinations and let them see what kind of chaos and havoc they can create. Such was the case with our latest addition to the HP3 Line known as the GREMLIN.
For starters, the R&D creatures found that when they "maxed out" the densities of both the block and the slug, the RG Value and DIFF Value both increased, while the mild asymmetric split lowered just a little, thus creating a cleaner and more angular motion down lane than we had ever seen before from this shape.
And of course they couldn't stop there. They then decided that in order to create a truly mischievous motion, they needed to develop a cleaner, more Versatile and more Responsive pearlized coverstock material, better known as V-R1™ (Versatile-Response - 1st version) to provide a new level of skid and snap that every bowling creature will come to appreciate.

Gremlin
I drilled the new gremlin to give me a smooth yet clean and strong reaction down lane, and that's exactly what it gave me! I stacked the CG and the Mass Bias up the middle of my span. This naturally give me a smooth, delayed reaction with any ball. The Gremlin has the Rondure MaxD core inside the V-R1 Pearl cover. This strong core/cover combo will naturally give you a smooth reaction, but the gremlin is something special! The Gremlin fits the ball 3 spot in my back for a 6 ball arsenal, and i see this ball staying in the bag for a very long time! 10/10 from me!

Roto Grip Gremlin
Layout: 45 x 4 3/8 x 35 Ohhh baby - the Rubicon UC2 was one of my favorite Roto Grip balls in quite some time; I even drilled a second one after I wore the first one out. Luckily, the Gremlin is a beefed up second coming of that ball, and not a second too late. Increasing the core differential helps it be even more secure in oil, while the cover still gets it easily down lane before traction sets in. This ball kills medium to medium-dry house patterns. It is still a bit too clean for fresh or heavier shots out of the box, though. The Attention Star is the perfect ball to have a step above this Gremlin, as it is a bit earlier and smoother. All in all, this is a great skid-flip ball for medium oil!

Gizmo!!
The Gremlin takes the place of the Optimum Idol Pearl in the Roto Grip HP3 lineup, much like the Rockstar did for the Optimum Idol. While I thought that it was unusual to discontinue the Optimum Idol pair so quickly, I think Roto Grip has actually made improvements that make no sense to have both the Optimum Idol Pearl and the Gremlin in the same lineup. The Gremlin introduces the all new Versatile Response V-R1 Pearl coverstock but brings back and enhanced version of the Rondure core from the Rubicons called the Rondure MaxD Core. Interestingly, they chose not to go with AI on the Gremlin, as AI will lower the RG and increase the differential. The Gremlin’s design intent was to push the RG higher, so AI doesn’t make sense there and USBC’s maximum allowed differential is 0.060, they wouldn’t want to run the risk of producing a ball pushing the maximum differential. The look of the Gremlin and the specs really seem to point to an updated version of the Rubicon UC2 - a great ball that’s deserving of an update. I believe the Rock Star will be an excellent ball to start the night with and then move to the Gremlin as the heads start to get beat up and you need to get further down the lane. The HP3 line has a reputation of having some of the best bang-for-your-buck balls on the market and the Gremlin is no exception Layout: 5 x 4 x 2 My Specs - Speed - 16 mph, Rev Rate - 315. Roto Grip Gremlin My updated specs: Rev rate 420’s, ball speed 15.3 to 15.8 mph off the hand, axis tilt of 16 degrees and axis rotation of 70 degrees, PAP is 3 15/16th up 3/16th. Tested on Pro-lane surface on a 43ft medium volume house pattern and on HPL on Scorpion and Earl Anthony Ball dynamics: COVERSTOCK: V-R1™ Pearl Reactive CORE: Rondure™ MaxD Core COLOR: Plum / Raisin / Tanzanite FINISH: Power Edge™ CONDITION: Medium to Medium/Heavy FLARE POTENTIAL: High With the updated Rondure core where the densities are changed in the block and puck, the core gives the ball more forgiveness and allows the bowler a little more miss area to work with. The new cover V-R1 adjusted to the fresh and transition well, and being nano “free” the cover provides a consistent reaction shot after shot and game after game. I have drilled 2 with 2 different centers in mind. The first Gremlin is 2 x 6 x 3 and the second one 5 x 4.5 x 3.5. The first one is designed to be controllable front to back and be more stable for me on the Pro Lane equipped center and the second one was drilled and laid out for the center with HPL in mind, more length and little less backend which is needed on that surface. Both Gremlin work well from the first shot in practice all the way through 3-5 games on both house and sport patterns. The Gremlins are allowing me to stay in the ball longer and just make minor adjustments during the matches and tournaments. These 2 are going to be in the main set of balls for me for the foreseeable future. RG Gremlin ball review by Mike Craig
My layout on the Gremlin was one of my favorites of 4.5 x 4 x 2-VLS. I left it at box surface as Power Edge on SPI balls has been a plus at the higher friction surfaces, I have been on this summer. I threw it on some PBA conditions namely the Monacelli-40 pattern in a PBA50 regional last month. The GREMLIN is very skid/flippy to me in the box condition which on this pattern was almost a detriment as it would get in behind the headpin and flat ten a lot or move a couple right and watch it big four. When I got it back to my league, it was a big motion in the back end of the lane. I was able to tame it down by throwing it flatter and faster and then I had the world with it. Compared to PHAZE AI, it was sharper down lane and not as early. To me the GREMLIN was a ball down option when the PHAZE AI was starting to straighten out in the back and stopped hitting/hooking. Compared to the IQ AI and the GREMLIN was a lot quicker and stronger. the IQ AI was a good ball to play off the GREMLIN when it was getting too sideways down lane. Plug the GREMLIN in as a big ball but be ready to knock the shine off it even if just slightly. It evens the motion out some and makes it more useable on more conditions.

Gremlin
The new Roto Grip Gremlin is the newest piece in the HP3 line. The Gremlin features the Rondure Maxd Core and the V-R1 pearl reactive coverstock finished with Power Edge. At 15 pounds the RG is 2.50 and the differential is .058 with an intermediate differential of .010. I drilled my Gremlin 5x4x2 which puts the pin above my ring finger. For me the Gremlin is a great transition ball when my RockStar is starting up too soon. The Gremlin provides more length than the RockStar but still reads the midlane. However, the backend motion on the Gremlin is much stronger than the RockStar. Some people have said this ball reminds them of the Rubicon UC2. This core is like the Rubicon cores, however the density has been changed in the new core. For me the Gremlin reads the lane sooner than the UC2 and has a more controlled, yet strong backend motion. The UC2 was a more skip flip reaction to me. The Gremlin will be a much more versatile and more user-friendly option than the UC2. I am able to use the Gremlin sooner and longer than other pearl reactives. If you are looking for a ball to go to after your big hooking solid ball, look no further than the Roto Grip Gremlin!

The Gremlin is a potent combination of the Rondure MaxD Core and the responsive V-R1 Pearl Reactive Coverstock, providing the Gremlin with some exciting and powerful results. And because of those results, there is a lot to explore behind the Gremlin, so let's take a closer look at what will make it an excellent addition to your arsenal. The Rondure MaxD core is the power-pumping heart of the Gremlin. Like the other iterations of the Rondure Core, the Rondure MaxD Core exhibits a clean and smooth motion in the mid-lane. However, what sets the Rondure MaxD Core apart is its definitive, crisp motion when the Gremlin comes off the pattern. For an asymmetrical core, the Rondure MaxD core revs briskly a bit later in the midlane, providing more time to store its energy. And if you are a straighter player like me, you will love the striking power the Rondure MaxD Core delivers. Although I would have liked to see Storm's A.I. Core Technology surrounding the Rondure MaxD core to give the Gremlin that extra added edge, the Rondure MaxD Core retained a substantial amount of hitting power and provided my Gremlin with a significant amount of continuation through the pins. So, all in all, the Rondure MaxD core lives up to all the hype Roto Grip gives it! The V-R1 Pearl reactive coverstock is what I would call a bowler-friendly coverstock. The V-R1 Pearl reactive gives the Gremlin a smooth and clean look through the front part of the lane, and allows the Gremlin to find smooth traction in the mid-lane. However, as a straighter player, I need a pearl that bites when it comes off the pattern without being jumpy, and the V-R1 Pearl coverstock gave me the surface flexibility I needed to dial in my Gremlin. The factory Power Edge box surface on the Gremlin went far too long for me on a THS, but when I hit the V-R1 Pearl with a 3000-grit Abralon pad for a THS league night, my Gremlin lit up the lanes. For my straighter low rev game, and the 3000-grit Abralon surface tweak, the V-R1 Pearl performed brilliantly all night in league without suffering from too much surface that leaves those dreaded corner pins. So, I highly recommend tweaking the V-R1 surface to your liking as it will give you the most control over your Gremlin, regardless of your playing style. Lastly, I will tell you that the V-R1 is a bowler-friendly coverstock, and it will deliver results you can rely on. In closing, Roto Grip has delivered another success to their HP3 line with the Gremlin. The Gremlin is a well-balanced combination of Rondure MaxD core and V-R1 Pearl reactive coverstock. Straighter players will love the Gremlins' ability to get dialed in to fit their tighter lines and yet produce that powerful roll and continuation we need to keep us striking. Further, for straighter players, the Gremlin can be both a THS league staple and the step down from those big asymmetric cores and solid coverstock like the RST Hyperdrive. In either case, the Gremlin is a great choice. So stop into your local Storm VIP Pro Shop today and see where the Roto Grip Gremlin fits in your arsenal for the fall season ahead. Gremlin
Ball Specs: Gremlin Cover: V-R1Pearl Core: Asymmetric Weight block. Review: The new Roto Grip Gremlin, released July 18, 2025, is a high-performance HP3 line ball designed for clean front-lane travel and explosive backend motion. Featuring the asymmetrical Rondure MaxD core with Roto Grip’s highest-ever RG (≈2.50) and differential (≈0.058), wrapped in the V-R1 Pearl Reactive cover, it stores energy with ease and delivers a sharp, angular snap off the breakpoint—ideal for lane transition and medium-to-drier conditions. Comparable to a more aggressive Rubicon UC2, the Gremlin excels late in league or tournament blocks, offering strong continuation and carry even as lanes break down. With a factory Power Edge finish, striking Plum/Raisin/Tanzanite colorway, and versatile surface adjustability, it’s a reliable choice for high-rev and speed-dominant players seeking a “skid-flip” reaction, or for mid-rev bowlers needing a transition ball to open angles without sacrificing control. Gremlin
The layout on this ball is 4 x 4 3/8 x 2 3/8 (or 50 x 4 x 40 using the dual angle layout). If you were a fan of the Roto Grip Rubicon series, you will really like this ball! It’s a remake of the Rubcion UC2… great length, round shape and continuous through the pins. The Gremlin will be a great late game 1 to game 2 ball in league. The Gremlin can also be used with different surface adjustments to fit anyone’s style of play. The Gremlin is a motion that I was looking for to have in my bag to switch from one of my bigger asymmetrical pearl balls, such as the Attention Star or an Equinox to provide me a nice round shape. I’m so glad to have it this is my arsenal. Make sure you get yours!

Roto Grip Gemlin
The newest addition to the RG HP3 Line is the Roto Grip Gremlin. The Gremlin uses a modified Rondure core which was in the UC2 series and Tour Dynamix. With a brand new Pearl Coverstock (V-R1). I drilled mine with a 4.5 x 4 x 4.5 pin down layout. The Gremlin has a high Diff Core with a very clean cover. Which the Gremlin creates an angular motion down lane! Even with the big motor the Gremlin gets down the lane with ease for an asymmetrical pearl and responds to friction pretty quickly. Very good motion from the Gremlin. The Gremlin is a must have ball in a bowler's arsenal its that good. It's a good ball down from the RST Hyper Drive or Storm Equinox. And a ball up from like RG Rock Start or Storm Phaze2.
