SWAG Black Dragon Hybrid Bowling Ball

The SWAG Black Dragon Hybrid is a straight-up bully on the lanes. This isn’t a ball I’m pulling out hoping it gives me a good look—I’m grabbing it because I want something that can take control of the pattern and make its presence known. On medium to heavier oil, you can really see this ball work. It gets through the front cleaner than you might expect from something this strong, but once it starts reading the middle of the lane, you better pay attention. It digs in, changes direction and keeps driving. It doesn’t just make the pocket—it goes through it. The forgiveness might be my favorite part. Miss a little into the oil and the Black Dragon Hybrid has enough strength to recover. Get one toward the friction and it doesn’t automatically lose its mind. That gives you confidence to keep throwing shots instead of constantly second-guessing your moves. As the pattern transitions, I can move in, give it some more lane and watch that Dragon keep coming.

I am a one handed/right-handed bowler with a ball speed between 17-18 mph. I stand around 22-25 on the approach and aim between 10-15 at the arrows. I am what you call a Tweener per say. I put the following layout of 60 x 4.5 x 20 on my Black Dragon Hybrid. With this layout I get the ball to read the midlane smoothly and get that snap downlane back towards the pocket. This ball is so smooth as it rolls down the lane and the once it makes the turn towards the pocket, it goes and smashes the pocket. I also can just follow the transition and move left as the lane breaks down. I can start the night with this ball or the OG Black Dragon. Also where I bowl I have to change the surface of most of my bowling balls. I added some polish to the Hybrid (slightly polished) and my original Black Dragon is at 3k. They just roll better in the center I bowl in.

However, as the lanes transition, the Hybrid's immense strength becomes highly apparent. By game three, after making modest adjustments to the left on the approach, the ball simply becomes too strong for breaking down oil, making a strategic ball-down transition absolutely necessary. It is an elite choice for heavy oil dominance.

I've used this ball on house shot and long and short sport shots. This ball does everything I need it to do and more. The scorch cover paired with the AP26 gets the ball to read in the midland but also keeps it on line to ease into the pocket. You can play up the lane and/or chase it inside and create some angle without giving up control of the pocket. Everyone needs a strong ball in their bag that you can control the pocket with, score well with, and use all the time and this ball can do it all for you for a long time. Definitely going to be a KEY piece in my arsenal for the foreseeable future.

One handed righty drilled 60/4.5/30 The SWAG Black Dragon Hybrid is a strong ball that fits nicely between the original Black Dragon Solid and the Black Dragon Pearl. The hybrid cover gives it a cleaner look through the front than the solid while still providing plenty of traction in the mid-lane and strong continuation through the pins. What really stands out to me is how strong but usable this ball is. The cover picks up the lane early enough to handle fresh oil, but it doesn't feel like it burns through the fronts as quickly as a stronger solid can. This ball worked better for me on fresh THS and had a harder time with carry-down. It was reading the lane too early and covering too many boards. For me, this is the type of ball I'd want when I need traction without giving up continuation. On a fresh house shot, it gives you plenty of confidence to get the ball into the oil and let it read the lane. As the lanes open up, you can move inside and continue creating angle without the ball losing energy. Overall, the Black Dragon Hybrid is strong and continuous. If you want a ball that gives you the traction of a big piece but is clean enough to stay usable as the lanes transition, this one definitely deserves a spot in the bag.
